Its not about taking away liberties, and that is a bullshit excuse I’ve heard the world over. Media needs to be regulated we don’t need anti-nationals in Pakistan spewing their garbage all over the place causing civil discord.

Unfortunately, asking that question puts your life and those on this side at risk. If one takes it out of a the context of a military forum where the discussion is on essentially how good your side and mine are at killing each other - these are actual problems (among many) shared between the two nations which ironically are fueled by vested powers using the other as an excuse - and that line is blurred very much to many of us as well.

It's a risk but one worth taking. It is the role of effective political parties and an independent judiciary to prevent the government from misuse of power.

It is a test of the strength and maturity of the much coveted democracy.

I'm not arguing against the existence of seditious and harmfully content, I'm pointing out that our region has a history of using national interests as an excuse to erode other fundamental rights enshrined in both our constitutions.

For example, if the authority in charge is upright and consciousness then the distinction between dissention and sedition is well defined and explained. However it is also regularly seen in both our countries that journalists pointing out policy mishaps or other structural defects that need addressing are harassed and silenced under the threat of sedition. Our polity is not capable of being impartial and will always serve their interests, this is where the risk of abuse lies.

Democracy might be a flawed system but one of its integral part is accountability, it is the citizens duty to make sure the system of checks and balances is not chipped away bit by bit under the illusion of safety.

At what point does freedom of speech impact on the sovereignty and security of a country that is surrounded by enemies and with a well known political opposition and media whom are anti-patriotic.
When you can answer that then you will have the answer to your naive question

Polity on both sides uses the threat of the other for their own gains, that much is undeniable.

Both our constitutions place heavy emphasis on certain rights afforded to us. I, personally am not ready to lose what I am due to fear.

If the self is made strong then it cannot be shaken and diversity of opinion surely offers more strength than conformity of one and I'm sure you'd agree with me that silencing opinions is a powerfull weapon that should be used as such.

Pakistan must regulate the media and all journalists must be made to work inside certain boundaries and their controlled excesses must be curbed. Free press is important but the media individual's can't be working for other countries or organisations.

Reporters/ Media propagandists should be licensed with renewals every year. Any reporter who plays the anti-Pakistan should have his/her license revoked.
