Time to test India’s Cold Start Doctrine

India has not operationalized the doctrine yet. Also, it should be battle tested when the situation demands, otherwise mock war games are good enough to test and enhance it.

time has been change now
why India is not attacking on us
we are ready to use atom bomb
simple

Tell me mate...before your atom bomb even india has atom bomb since 1974...then how many times india attacked pakistan before you acquired atom bomb???...if the artcile is a true and if many pakistani friends really agreee to this article then i am really sad then when it is the time to increase mutual cooperation and increase in trade between 2 countries ...people start talking about testing the war scenario.....for a moment think that if pak has a bomb..then india has atlease 2-3 bombs too....so do you think it is rational that india should think to go for a war??? We are not so mad mate...we will happy to do trade with our enemeys too to get our citizens life better......

Maybe it wasnt cold start, maybe it was false start.. get the enemy all hyped up.. while you .....

Cold start is probably one of the best doctrines in military history. I can think of no other doctrine that has the "intended opponent" in such a tizzy. It is not important whether the doctrine is real or will actually be acted upon, it suffices if the target assumes that it exists & may be made operational. The opponent has to factor in the possibility of such a doctrine existing & will automatically put in place both defensive measures but also take proactive steps to see that a situation where such a doctrine is used does not come about. That would be mission accomplished for Indian military planners.

India is quite optimistic that in case New Delhi is able to impose limited war on Pakistan, international community would intervene to support Indian armed forces logistically, tactically and strategically in the final assault. New Delhi is also expecting that international community, including United Nations, would not allow the war to prolong. No one had ever thought that an ordinary military paper would receive so much recognition that military strategists would include it as war strategy against Pakistan. India ‘s Cold Start Doctrine has never been rehearsed nor is in conformity with the ground realities but some of the Indian top Armed Forces officials are convinced that it would at least enhance India ‘s might in international community. An idealistic situation has been presumed, which can go in either direction. The speed and timings calculated for move Strike Force, Integrated Battle Groups (IBGs) as well as the Reserves by road, rail and air do not match means of transportation available in India.
It is on record that Indian Army Chief General V.K Singh denied the existence of the Cold Start Doctrine. In a recent leak of Indian classified papers, Indian command discussed various steps to defeat Pakistan which include
1) Provoke a civil war within Pakistan,
2) Provoke mutiny within the Pakistani armed forces,
3) Plan in which India, with the cooperation of US and NATO troops, would carryout selected attacks on pockets inside Pakistan, while Israeli aircraft and guided missiles will destroy Pakistan’s nuclear plants. This would be followed by ground attacks by NATO troops from the west and Indian troops from the east.India ‘s foreign policy is the major irritant between Indo-Pakistan relations as a very powerful lobby in India is waging a proxy war strategy to bleed Pakistan through provinces of Balochistan and Sindh. However, one thing is sure that India cannot defeat Pakistan militarily as any wrong move may cost very heavily to India.

One doesn't have to read any more of this article to realise that it is a total waste of time. That is where I stopped reading anyway. The only impression one gets is that this Afshain Afzal is a civilian who hasn't the slightest clue of what he is writing. All the knowledge of military matters that he pretends to have seems to have been imbibed from Zaid Hamid. 'A recent leak of Indian classified papers'. Indeed. The only leak appears to be located on the person of Mr Afshain Afzal. A funny article containing an amalgam of propaganda designed to sell, selective misquotes of a multitude of newspaper articles, zero knowledge of military matters and a generous helping of backseat hyper nationalism.

I really hate it when self styled civilian 'defence experts' start expounding on military tactics and strategy. The ignorance levels are so high that they have no choice but to use disproportionately large quantities of pure bullshit to fill even a single paragraph. The end product makes no military sense but makes a lot of patriotic sense to people as ignorant as the author himself. But since this is the target audience to begin with, that is what sells these articles unfortunately.
