DHARAMSHALA: Marking the 100th year of proclamation made by 13th Dalai Lama (ThubtenGaysto) in 1913 that Tibet was an independent nation, Tibetans came out on Wednesday, dressed in their traditional dresses, while historical documents including treaties between Tibet and other countries, Tibetan currency (copper coins), postal system items, passports and other historical references made by historians in various books were put on public display to support the Tibetan cause.

The unique exhibition was organized at Tibetan day school in McLeodganj where activists persuaded Tibetan youths to take a look at the exhibits, in a bid to spread the message about Tibetan independence.

Sangay Tenden, a well-known historian, working as a researcher in Tibetan Library, said: "Tibet was an independent nation and we have come up with these authenticated facts, which are evidences supporting this claim. On July 3, 1914, Tibet has taken part in Simla conference which was attended by representatives of three nations -- India, Tibet and China. It is an important event in history, showcasing that Tibet was an independent country".

Apart from historians, others who addressed the gathering of youth included politicians and leaders of prominent Tibetan groups. The speakers maintained that February 13 is a historic and significant day, which should be remembered and observed by all Tibetans, including youths.

Street plays were also held to mark the occasion while special horses were hired by activists on whom they took rounds of the market, wearing uniforms of soldiers.

To highlight the Tibetan cause among the masses, musical shows were also organized at the hill top in which local songs of Tibet were rendered by various Tibetan artists.

"We have organized Tibetan musical shows at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts to make the evening memorable. It is important that Tibetans in exile should know about this fact of Tibetan independence," said Tsetne Dorjee, national director of the Students for Free Tibet movement.

Meanwhile, loudspeakers were also put up on the main streets of the hill destination, announcing the schedule of programmes to summon tourists. The gathering at the venues included people of various nationalities, apart from Tibetans, sources said.

:lol:Are Indians so desperated these days? A temptation to claim 106 km border with Afghanistan after seeing that China and Pakistan cooperate on Gwadar, now claiming Tibet to be free after China plan to build 3 dams at brahmaputra rivers; Tibet not only China water tower but electric tower as well, we will have huge electricity to power our economy unlike India with power shortage to cause 600 millions Indians without electricity...India is so hopeless vis-a-vis China
