The Polish Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 30 December that it had received three bids for the army's medium helicopter replacement programme.
Bids were received from Airbus Helicopters, Sikorsky, and AgustaWestland subsidiary PZL Swidnik. The programme seeks to replace the army's Mil Mi-8/17 'Hip'and Mil Mi-14 'Haze' fleet with a total of 70 medium-lift helicopters. The new helicopters are to be deployed across the Polish Armed Forces, with 48 serving as multirole transports, 16 combat search and rescue (CSAR), and six for maritime CSAR and anti-submarine warfare platforms.
Airbus Helicopters is proposing the EC725 Cougar, while Sikorsky subsidiary PZL Mielec is proposing the S-70i, an internationalised version of the company's S-70 (H-60) Black Hawk helicopter.
