The 6-tonne satellite is unique and covers the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia and Europe, a member of the Saudi first (1st satellite team of 4 to build 4 satellites- 2 for remote sensing and 2 for communications) satellite team was quoted as saying.
"The satellite provides two mobile beams that can track an aircraft traveling at 900 kilometers per hour, from any point in the coverage of the earth, which is one-third of the land and half of the world's important areas," said Mishal al-Anzi, a member of the Saudi satellite team. And it has the ability to secure encrypted communication and anti-interference and electronic warfare, through the characteristic of frequency jump and encryption that can change as needed. "
Al-Anzi expected that the satellite will be launched at the end of this year and will start operating in the first quarter of next year.
The Saudi expert stressed that he and his colleagues "have acquired a rich experience through continuous work and increased efforts during the period of manufacturing the first Saudi satellite of tis type", pledging that "they will invest their expertise to employ and transfer technology and manufacture of communications satellites to the Kingdom."
Faisal Baoud, another member of Saudi Arabia's first satellite team, described the experience with Lockheed Martin as being rich in practical terms, adding that the company was "cooperating with the business requirements, giving us the same tasks as the company's engineers and under the supervision of certified engineers" .
And on the details of the work they have done, he said, "The trainee works as a certified engineer under supervision and is required to complete more than 50 assignments during the year to obtain the certificate. Among these tasks is finding a solution to a problem that occurred during the satellite test, and a task like that requires presence in the working environment most of the time to get a chance that only occurs in the event of a problem in the satellite. "
The Saudi expert stressed that "the presence of the Crown Prince (MBS) made them feel the value of the achievement they are working on."
Baoud also revealed that Lockheed Martin has trained 11 Saudi engineers during the manufacturing of the first Saudi telecommunications satellite in various fields, including satellite control systems, communications systems, software, mechanics and quality control.
