Realist,
In our 10+ years of being deeply involved in the political forum world, we have good reasons for the way we are.
But before I get into the why, let me explain "what we are"
1) We're not a Pakistani forum. We're an international forum with Pakistan as its subject matter. To us a Pakistani member is no better than an Indian, a Chinese, a Russian, etc. The most valued members here are those that will keep their cool, will demonstrate knowledgeable understanding of issues, will communicate their message effectively (not to be an English snob, but good communication skills are vital here).
2) We are a forum that appreciate, on topic, and off member posting. What I mean by that is, that you talk about the topic, and nothing but the topic, and NEVER about the members talking about the topic. This is so fundamental and 90% of the people end up getting booted out because they can't do this and we don't want people who can't do this either. Not going to put anything against them here, but this is apparently not the right forum for people who can't debate on topic and need to resort to character assassination of the person they are debating with.
We strongly encourage people to keep the topic of the threads, more or less about Pakistan. Good, bad or the ugly. We want to discuss primarily only Pakistan. Indian members, I must agree have been guilty of forgetting this aspect about our policy - we do not encourage stories about Indians social, political, communal problems if they are not presented in a Pakistan context.
I must reiterate here that Pakistanis have been equally guilty of dragging India, in with the "Oh look at these poor Indians with nothing to wear and eat" - Not Pakistan's concern, people.
3) We're a secular forum. We do not encourage or demean any religion here. We do not however allow proselytizing of any religion, very strictly. You're not here to make anyone a better member of your faith. You may discuss social issues emanating with faith related problems - that too only in a Pakistan context. We understand there'd be faith popping up into discussions and we'd only allow it here in that "cultural" context - that too only Pakistan's culture.
With that I hope I've been able to impress upon you what we are, we're not a Pakistani forum. We're not a forum for Pakistanis... We're a forum about Pakistan.
Now for the why we're what we are:
1) We're an international forum since Pakistan does not live in a silo. Pakistan is a part of the global community, we need to understand all point of views about Pakistan. Bridge gaps, and become productive. There will be no growth if this was a forum that stated "Pakistan's great" and the nearly 20,000 members of ours just nodded in agreement.
2) Talking on topic is necessary to maintain our qualitative edge. It is a weak man's argument to resort to character assassination when you know you can't beat the other side's comments. Do you feel overwhelmed by the Indian presence here? Well the responsibly falls more on you, than on us since we are nationality blind, but if you truly believe in your point of view then you need to up you game and not give up.
3) We're secular, since we promote secularism for Pakistan. We believe EVERY Pakistani is an equal Pakistani and should be treated as such. This emanates from our policy and belief that EVERY member is an equal member of the forum. It would be a great disservice to Pakistan if we classifieds millions of our Pakistanis as lower class citizens just by valuating them based on their choice of faith. Faith is personal and its everyone's right to follow any path. However its none of our business how you approach God.
As I started, we are a culmination of a lot of experience with online forums and handling, and building large communities. With experience we will too continuously keep evolving as well but we have a vision and set goals along which we'd drive this community forward. We're not in need of revision as we're in a state of constant of change as our understanding grows further (just as everybody else). But we're how we are, not because of a mistake we've made (surely we've made other mistakes though). The way we are, all of this, its all deliberate.
