Britain’s Royal Air Force said Wednesday that it scrambled fighter jets in response to four Russian military aircraft approaching the United Kingdom.

The force said four Russian strategic bombers were “intercepted and escorted,” adding that they did not enter U.K. airspace at any point.

The Typhoon jets took off from British air force bases in Lossiemouth, northeast Scotland, and they were joined by a Voyager air-to-air refueling tanker launched from Oxfordshire, England.

Authorities did not provide further details on the operation.

The force routinely intercepts aircraft approaching what it describes as the “UK area of interest.” It has said previously that Russian military aircraft entering the U.K.’s policed zone of international airspace can pose a hazard to other air users because they often do not talk to air traffic control.

In November 2021, jets were launched in response to Russian strategic bombers. Officials said at the time the fighters escorted the Russian aircraft out of the “area of interest” and that the bombers did not enter U.K. airspace.

The British resolve has gotten to Russia and the Russians have always disliked the British.. They just don't get along.. I recall 2-3 years ago where the Russian spokeswoman went into an epic rant bashing UK...

Boris Johnson will deploy across the entire eastern European flank and the Russians didn't even like them way before that and if you add this on top of that.. UK is there number one nemesis...

It's their Ali to Frasier and I always knew somehow UK will react in Eastern Europe but quite surprising that Germany and France folded and Russia has intimidated them into folding..

Ukraine, Poland, UK, US, Baltic states, Canada and Romania stand tall and not intimidated by the bear whereas the remaining have folded like Italy etc etc

If any war was to happen in Eastern Europe it would be an Anglo-Russo war where Poland, Ukraine and Romania are on UK side whereas Russia and Belarus on the other side

The remaining will accept neutrality and betray their treaties due to folding to threat intimidation..

But these 4 will definitely fight (UK, Poland, Romania and Ukraine)

The UK should try and take Russia on one-on-one without its daddy America.

well, all I can say is if the UK didn't stop fingering Russia, Putin gonna nuke their ***.

These Brits don't realize that to the rest of the world they look like clowns when they get all hysterical about Russian Missile Carriers on patrol. A good part of the Cold War was all about long range bomber aviation, so it's not like this is something for the Brits to get their panties in a knot. At this rate they will be the laughing stock of the world. They need to take their own advice, how does the slogan go? Ah yes! "Keep Calm".... and STFU!

That's better.

Idm Russian blitz on London as long as it’s within boundaries of Westminster Palace..

its a routine intercept and happens all the time, Russian are tasing the RAF response times and they got the answer loud and clear

the sky above is free and open as long as RAF is awake people can sleep easy

nothing happens and UK intelligence doesnt know about it calm down folks

those 80 year old bombers have turboprops so loud the Astute Class heard it down in the Falklands islands

I doubt Poland, Romania and Ukraine can fight even US is not openly supplying Russia they are doing it quietly in case Russia is provoked

France, Germans, Italy and Spain have been crying since they seen those 127,000 Russians arriving at the border saying Helloski

Poor Germans have been avoiding any sort of disagreement with Russia

However the real leader in Europe and the rest of the World is UK

Extremely highly trained, best equipment and men in the World, second to none, battle proven record huge and long and proud traditions

Just like in Battle of Britain the US was sitting watching and only decided to join once they knew British were winning

same again now, they see UK defeating and stopping Russia at every stage and now US is going in too

I don't blame Russia here. I know it may come across as a simplistic view but the Russians too are worried about what the future of Ukraine means for them.

I don't think the Brits would like if Russians were constantly parked off the Dover Cliffs or garrisoned in any of their neighboring countries.

American public is completely oblivious to how Russians perceive the possibility of Ukraine entering NATO as such it is not even worth talking about American considerations.

The best option is to give Russia guarantees that Ukraine will not be allowed into NATO, equip Ukraine to have sufficient conventional deterrence against Russian aggression and the US and the UK, NATO should back off and de-escalate. Otherwise this won't be good for anyone.

The one country that actually is treading carefully is Germany but they are being branded as cowards and traitors because they are not supporting Ukraine openly.

Except that Britain is taking "punga" in Russia's backyard at the behest of the US. No problems with Britain fighting to defend its home-turf but this is going in someone else's backyard to stir up trouble. Akin to Indians coming into Afghanistan under the pretext of "safeguarding Afghan sovereignty" or Russians moving major forces into Venezuela. Both Pakistan and US would have massive issues/crossing of red-lines in these instances.

One also has to think about the disparity between US/NATO vs. Russia. Russia of today is not the size/scale and capability as in the Warsaw Pact days. Their insecurities are higher and the Trump idiot scrapping all of the major strategic arms treaties has only increased Russian insecurities.

what insecurities

this has zero to do with insecurities and everything to do with a authoritarian regime telling other independent democratic nations who they can chose as friends and allies going as far as saying that they want guarantees that Ukraine will not join NATO

if Ukraine wants to look West they have every right to, same way Belarus is looking East

this is not acceptable in the international arena and UK with its financial, diplomatic and most importantly military capability will not stand for such ridiculous demands from a Communist state who poisons their own people in the streets of London with radioactive material

Russia may bully Germans and French certainly not British

Ok what if russia gets into defence pact and install missile batteries with cuba or canada ?

Or in other case similar case with spain or france ?

Would USA or UK allow to interfere in the neighbouring countries and will allow them to become garrison of the enemy state ? Then why reaction of russia on ukraine is surprising ?

Isn't it open secret that Ukraine regime was sponsored by west ?

You and I may disagree on geopolitics but there is no doubting the combat readiness of our forces 🇬🇧 🇬🇧

You have overestimated the UK capabilities. Secondly, on the issue of Russian "insecurities", let's also try to understand the Russian perspective instead of simply buying into the US/Western narrative around this affair. The German Naval Chief was right on point with his statement but was fired because his assessment countered the prevailing Western narrative.

Perhaps a different world view to start with would be this:

https://www.salon.com/2022/02/02/in...asco-the-us-is-reaping-exactly-what-it-sowed/

"The most critical events that have been airbrushed out of the West's political narrative are the violation of agreements made by Western leaders at the end of the Cold War not to expand NATO into Eastern Europe, and the U.S.-backed coup in Ukraine in February 2014. Western mainstream media accounts date the crisis in Ukraine back to Russia's2014 reintegration of Crimea, and the decision by ethnic Russians in eastern Ukraine to secede from Ukraine as the Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics.
But these were not unprovoked actions. They were responses to the U.S.-backed coup, in which an armed mob led by the neo-Nazi Right Sector militia stormed the Ukrainian parliament, forcing elected President Viktor Yanukovych and members of his party to flee for their lives. After the events of Jan. 6, 2021, in Washington, that scenario should now be easier for Americans to understand."
