Foreign ministry of Bangladesh protested such hereasy and propaganda of 3.2 million Bangladeshi living in India that is why it was not included in 2017 report. Why do you think the largest block of migrant in the world disappeared in report? Lol. I am quoting a former Foreign Ministry Secretary who said it in a talk saw India entered the data and we had to protest to remove it from later reports.

Bangladeshi representive was not present when earlier report was prepared based on false data supplied by Hindu extremist of India. To date no one knows how many Bangladeshi lives in India or vice versa. In 2004 one Indian minister claimed 12 million Bangladeshis lives in India later denounced it say it was based on hereasy and unreliable data. If your minister can say something like that at the parliament and later denounce it, there is no credibility what India says about the issue.

It is not even mentioned yet how the initial figure of 3.2 million was published and what is the source of it. No doubt some Hindus migrated to India and any such figure contain mostly Hindus.

Look, friends both Indian and BD, no one aware of the geography will ever doubt that infiltration took place. If we dwell into the reasons thereof, the prime among them will be the Chit Mahals, better known as Enclaves, or parcels of areas that changed hands according to the result of board games that we call pasha in Bangla.

I have been to the enclaves many a times on official duty as have our friends from BD. They had nowhere to go, Indian lands for instance had to pass through BD areas and vice versa. I have heard of a BD Chit Mahal that is enclosed by an Indian one, only that the entire structure is deep inside Bangladesh. Figure that!

Those Bangladeshis and even some of us Indians always tomtom about their GDP growth and what not, I am not good with figures but what I understand is that these figures are of no use if the benefits don't trickle down to the most downtrodden segment of the society. The enclave dwellers certainly didn't receive much of the benefit since our independence.

There are many students studying in India, many Hindus went there and seek refugee claim, many Hindus are economic migrant as well, there are Bangladeshi business man and working professionals as well. Many Bangladeshis has relatives in India and staying in India for extended period with tourist visa. If they count all these and came up with the figure that is one thing which indicated reduced by .8 million since 2000. But still the question remains if it counted illegal migration how they counted them. Unless any illegal migrant asked for some kind of document or detained there are no way to count them.

The number of students/legal immigrants wouldn't make 3.1 million. Bangladeshis must draw a salary of over 16 lakh P.A to be granted employment Visa here (9 lakh if married to an Indian/PIO)

No, India is not a party to 1951 refugee convention and do not accept them as refugees. Instead they are illegal immigrants for us.

However according to UNHCR there are 200,000 refugees (by their definitions) in India from several regions including Sri Lanka & Tibet.
