The U.S. Navy carrier strike group and U.S. Air Force bombers deployed to the Middle East to counter Iran conducted simulated strike drills near Iran this weekend as tensions between Washington and Tehran remain high.

The U.S. began deploying numerous troops and military assets to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility last month in response to intelligence indicating that Iran was plotting attacks on U.S. interests in the region.

The exact nature of the threat posed by Iran and its proxies is unclear, although Vice Adm. Michael Gilday recently told reporters at the Pentagon that the Iranian leadership has repeatedly made threats backed up by changes in their force posture.

Furthermore, there have been a string of attacks in recent weeks — including attacks on tankers in UAE waters, a drone strike on a Saudi pipeline, and a rocket attack in the Green Zone in Iraq — that have reinforced the U.S. military's view that Iran is involved in or plotting nefarious activities.

The exercises conducted Saturday involved F/A-18E Super Hornets, E-2D Growlers and other air assets from Carrier Air Wing 7 attached to the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and B-52H Stratofortress heavy, long-range bombers.

The drills included air-to-air training, formation flying, close air support exercises, strike coordination and reconnaissance training, and simulated strike operations.

"Our land, air, and maritime assets are even stronger and more effective when integrated together," Lt. Gen. Joseph Guastella, Combined Forces Air Component Commander, said in a statement. "We are postured to face any threats toward US forces in this region."

"The training the air wing conducted with the B-52's today is an incredible demonstration of how our military can rapidly join capabilities to enhance our lethality and our ability to respond to any threat when called upon," Capt. William Reed, Carrier Air Wing 7 commander, explained.

it depends on how better iran is prepared and trained to deal with attack from u.s.If war occur between iran and saudia u.s will do the same to winning party like it did with sadam Hussain in 1991 iraq-kuwait war when iraq was winning war and their army invaded kuwait then u.s started bombing iraq army position under operation desert storm and used same b52 bombers ,f16 and f15 and aircraft carriers like they are using in drills now in middle east.Arab nations and iran should learn from what happened with sadam Hussain is being repeated now

just another USA BS NEWS
Fact! Before America's enemy would be afraid and US would be brave, NOW, AMerica's enemy is afraid and US is also afraid too.

My best conclusion: Despite its power, IF a US aircraft carriers enters the Persian gulf, Iran can seriously damage or destroy it.

Here's why the US aircraft carrier sent to confront Iran isn't sailing up to its doorstep

  • The US sent tons of firepower to the Middle East to confront a mysterious threat from Iran, but now that those military assets are in the region, it's holding back.
  • The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier has yet to enter the Persian Gulf, where US carriers have sailed for decades, because there are apparent concerns that tensions with Iran could boil over.
  • "You don't want to inadvertently escalate something," the commander of the Lincoln told The Associated Press, signaling that the US military is trying to leave room for diplomacy while deterring possible Iranian aggression.

The USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier is hanging back outside the Persian Gulf, where US carriers have sailed for decades, amid apparent concerns that tensions with Iran could boil over.

The US deployed a carrier strike group, a bomber task force, and other military assets to the Middle East in May in response to threats posed by Iran. Although the Pentagon has attempted to shed some light on the exact nature of the threat, questions about some of the specifics remain.

One US military asset deployed to US Central Command was the Lincoln, which was rushed into the region with a full carrier air wing of fighters but hasn't entered the narrow Strait of Hormuz, a vital strategic waterway where Iranian speedboats routinely harass American warships.

As this symbol of American military might sailed into the region, President Donald Trump tweeted, "If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran." This stark warning aside, both the White House and the Pentagon have repeatedly emphasized that the purpose of these deployments is deterrence, not war.

When asked by British media Tuesday if the US would attack Iran, Trump replied, "There is always a chance. Do I want to? No, I'd rather not. But there's always a chance." Later in that same interview, he said, "I would much rather talk."

The US has been putting increased pressure on Iran while also offering to negotiate. The US military has meanwhile been keeping the Lincoln out of the Persian Gulf and away from Iran's doorstep.

if USA will fight it will be good last war of USA . we have seen how taliban and iraqis melted USA in past decade . iran will be another story . USA is not a solo super power they are deep in debt and mess . it will be biggest mistake of USA to attack iran .

I also believe that a hypothetical war against Iran is going to dent the US quite badly. This is shameless posturing. The US won’t attack Iran.

Harsh truths detected. nothing else to add. humility and wisdom are priceless.

Well americans have burnt all their currency in dealing with Iran by their stupid policy in a way that has narrowed down the remaining options to either war or negotiation .. they thought by max pressure & shadow of war they could make Iran to accept their terms which both have already been rejected by Iran due to being unacceptable & now have no idea what would be the next step .. Iran has opted another way which is resistance & has started its nuclear program step by step base on the JCPOA which is a blow to american strategy ...

Ok, give me a brake. Is this why US fleet is not entering the Persian Gulf?

The carrier is instead operating in the Arabian Sea. "You don't want to inadvertently escalate something," Capt. Putnam Browne, the carrier's commander, told The Associated Press on Monday.
You always used to have one aircraft carrier in PG and all of sudden now you are concerned you may inadvertently escalates something? Well, got news for you: Things are already escalated as far as they could be. The type of snctions US has put on Iran used be interpreted as act of war just a couple of decades ago and used to start real wars. Short of firing missiles at Iran or its naval assets, there is nothing you could do to escalate the situation further.
I think whatever the reason is, it is good news for Iran. Iran always wanted to have a Persian Gulf free of US navy and now it has it.

US war with Iran is a fantasy.

No matter what wonder weapons US fields it will never put boots on the ground because the “body bag count” in an Iranian war will be over 50,000 possibly 100,000 US soldiers. A US carrier carries several thousand alone let alone supercarriers and battlegroups included.

Add that to the fact that Iran will completely destroy the oil facilities of the PG and shut down the straight will lead to a severe global economic crisis that maybe unprecedented since WW2.

Add that to the fact US is stretch thin pivoting to Asia to combat the Superpower of the East and also a pesky stubborn Russia. US can not afford an Iran war.

So please stop with the “Iran’s missiles will do this ” and “US F-22’s will do that” fanboy armchair general war games. Just a waste of internet space.
