Some of these planes probably weren't worth taking back all the way to US, cheaper to leave behind in Afghanistan.

The scumbags are never exposed like this before. If they were really in afghanistan to win the hearts and minds of civilian afghan and to defeat the evil of Taliban then they should have left those non combat helicopters and planes for tye benefits of civilians. Most are worthless. Like the Blackhawk in Afghanistan which China Z-20 used more powerful engine, digital flyby wire control system which are absent from those.

They are just missing a few components here and there. Turkish/Pak engineers could make most of them fly worthy in a month

This is damage control by the US. The equipment may not be operational now. But to say that something will never fly/work again is BS.

The Taliban may not have the parts or expertise to make them, but they do have neighbours who may be willing to help them.

Worst case scenario for the Afghans is that they would have to sell them to those neighbours, who will have all the time in the world to reverse engineer and operationalize the equipment, or cannibalize it for parts.

Someone is going to use all those planes and helicopters.

Yes we cared so much about Afghanistan and afghans that this defeat is more humiliating than loosing half of India and the military surrendering to pak army like cowards.
