I am sorry to my Chinese friends but you can see why Pakistan is in the mess it is. Millions of us have had to go abroad to make a living. Millions more are trying to go abroad by hiding, swimming across oceans. There is a reason why we are in the mess we are in. And that is to do with the way we think. We repeat the very failed thinking that fcuked us up, again, again, again, again like a fish in bowl that goes around, around. Every other society or should I say the ones that succeed try a recipe. If it fails they amend the policy. If that fails again theu amend that policy and if that fails they go back to the drawing board and come up with fresh idea. In Pakistan we keep trying to implement the same failed policy again and again like guy smashing his head against the stone wall.
My dad was young student back in early late 1950s and his first job after graduation [1960]was with a US ARMY Corp of Engineers. The big buzz in those days was USA. At the time USA launched a programme to literally build up Pakistan from ground up. In a project that in value easily exceeds CPEC the Americans financed the building up of Pakistan Army, Navy, Airforce. New cities, Capital Islamabad. Dams. Entire military bases housing Pakistan Army formations including entire corps housing 10,000s of troops including all logistical support. My dad as graduate got a job straight away in 1960 employed by US Corp of Engineers. at Kharian Military Cantonment which was as big as city being then built.
You can see the statistics of the time. Because of this US largesse Pakistan economy boomed in the 1960s. This period is still cited by some Pakistanis as brag rights to show how great we were then. At the time USA was also similarly allied with South Korea, Taiwan, Turkey. What happened? We blew it with the Americans. By 1970 the honeymoon with USA was over and both peoples began to drift apart. Today we positively hate USA. However South Korea, Taiwan, Turkey worked with USA and became highly developed countries. South Korea and Taiwan are still strong allies of USA although Turkey is begining to drift.
Today Pakistan has been given another opportunity. A golden opportunity by China and my fear is Pakistan is going to waste this opportunity and become estranged from China like it did with America. It indeed would be a tragedy of in the pursuit of the most dumbest ummah concept to blow this opportunity. But like I said there is reason why Pakistan is in the mess it is. Because we like repeating the same failed recipe again and again.

Blast from the past. President Ayub Khan on visit to USA 1960s when the bromance Am-Pak was at it's height. This reminds me of the euphoria you when recently Chinese premier Xi Jinping visited Pakistan and met Nawaz Sharif to announce the CPEC. We all know the state of US and Pakistan relations today. They soured, they cooled and then went hostile.
