Not just emotional but sinister. Do not forget it.Except in the case of a natural boundary such as mountain or a river, no boundary line is ever long lasting. It is therefore incorrect to argue that since Peshawar was winter capital of the some of the Durrani kings, KP should be part of Afghanistan.
Durrani Empire as established by Ahmed Shah included Punjab, Sindh & Baluchistan as well. Ghaznavid ruled Punjab for more than 300 years also, why limit the boundary to north of Indus?
Why go back only 100 years why not 1000 years? Most of the Peshawar and southern Afghanistan was Buddhist and /or Hindu until the Saffaris captured Kabul in 879 AD. Kabul was recaptured by the Hindushahis until Subuktagin (Father of Mahmud) eliminated the Hindu shahi control from southern Afghanistan up to the Indus in the late 990’s AD. Both the Kabul & Qandhar were part of the Mughal Empire until Auragzeb ( died 1707 AD), why should these cities be not part of Pakistan? My point is that pact is only valid as long as both parties are willing to abide by it and historical basis is not necessarily relevant today.
Khyber Pass has been a natural boundary between the ancient Khorasan (including Afghanistan of today) and the subcontinent. Similarly at most places Durand Line is along the mountain passes. Besides, regardless of what is right or what is wrong; it is present day ground reality.
Pakistan is not insisting that current boundary be made as the final international boundary. Let us call the Durand Line the Line of Control. After all Afghanistan does have a Customs Post at Torkham and also at the Chaman border.
Taliban terrorists are inflicting serious damage to the peace and harmony of the countries, what is the harm in controlling as who goes in and out of the border?
Therefore Afghani objection to fortifying the border is based purely on ‘Emotional’ considerations has no rational justification.
Afghan already have so much land and still unable to utilize it. What they will do with more land?.
Majority food requirement of Afghanistan fulfill by Pakistan. Specially, wheat, rice, cooking oil etc etc.Their hatred comes from jealousy and arrogance they have been rejected by pakistani pashtuns and their land mostly is a barren and harsh place not to mention landlocked. Even in their major afghan cities there's also not much color/ beauty or joyful atmosphere or nightlife that you can get in some major pakistani cities.
Balochistan has a coastline and KPK is lush and beautiful place. Afghanistan they have not gotten over the fact they have gone from a mighty empire to a war-torn failed state while Pakistan has inherited Durand line borders and developed far ahead of them. They probably have wet-dreams about annexing beautiful pakistani territory.
