Russia is not geographically connected to Pakistan. the most stable route is through China. Why would Russia allow China to control their lifeline to Indian Ocean ?

What is going Russia going to export to the Middle East and Africa ? Oil ??

I need to highlight few things before we say Russia supporting Pakistan against India.

• When military exercise was started between Russia and Pakistan from 24 September 2016 same time India Army was in Russia for their bi-yearly military exercise INDRA2016

• Russia issued a statement that it is having military exercise in Pakistan not any part of Azad Kashmir No military exercises with Pakistan in Azad Kashmir, says Russia
• Russia was first country to back Indian Army surgical strike in Azad Kashmir Russia welcomes surgical strike by India in Azad Kashmir - The Economic Times

May be as other are saying that world is changing but this will take longer than usual for Russia to support Pakistan against India. I don’t think this will be possible in near future because India always maintained balanced relation with Russia and western countries namely USA.

Recent visit of President Putin for BRICS summit enhanced the ties with India and ending the speculation about India and Russia relationship. Mr Modi while addressing the media with Putin clearly indicate and stated "One old friend is better than two new ones" using Russian proverb.

Indian PM and Russian Federation President signed 16 agreement majorly include

• S-400 Triumf air defence systems worth over $5 Billion,
• Make in India of Kamov helicopters with Russia,
• Kudankulum nuclear power plant unit 3 and unit 4 foundation laying

After Russia’s not so bright adventure in Afghanistan, their military might be itching for some practice on that type of terrain. Russia is taking its international role rather seriously, and this exercise might be providing them key information to pass on to India when the time comes.

Who can blame them if they want to sell some arms to Pakistan as well, now that Pak’s old buddy USA is not so pleased with their double games!

At this point, Pakistan will be happy to hold exercises with anybody!

Russia knows it will continue to have India as an ally, and there is far deeper collaboration between India and Russia than meets the eye.

The world is changing and we do not have to be polarised one way or the other.
