The most Earth-like planet so far, has been discovered.

The rocky planet called Kepler 186F, is close to the size of Earth and has the potential to hold liquid water which is critical for life

yea but we cannot look at the planet directly. Even the most dwarf planets in solar system like Pluto are at best a pixel for now.

It's better to say that there is data that would be consistent with an Earth mass planet that is at the right distance from its star to have liquid water. Right now, all we know is that something makes an M-Class star named Kepler 186 wink and wobble.

There are all sorts of other things that go into making a planet habitable as we understand it, like a magnetic field (Iron/Sulfur circulation generated current in the mantle is what keeps us from being Mars), an atmosphere that doesn't store too much heat (Venus), a crust that recycles itself and doesn't absorb too much water (yay, Silica!), a large shepherd outer planet that soaks up most of the incoming planet killing rocks (Jupiter), and a star that doesn't have frequent mass ejections. Most stars have much less mass and are more unstable than the sun (which is larger than 95% of observed stars in the Milky Way). There is a body of work that suggests that any planet close enough to an M-class star to have liquid water is going to be subject to frequent outbursts of high energy protons.

Whether it has water is a big IF. Also given the star being a dwarf, the planet could have been older than the Earth and can have lost its water from evaporation. Also, even for Earth-like planets, the protective magnetic field will disappear when the inner part of the planet cool down (like our Mars, and smaller guys like the satellites) and the solar wind will just blow aways its entire atmosphere.

So we don't know until we can directly look at these planets.

Besides just water who knows if the planet has heavy elements like Calcium Iron essential for life. Unless we have the capability to study their atmosphere nothing can be said for sure.

Actually, we can tell the composition of the atmosphere through stereoscopy. elements have Atoms that emit different forms of color. With each elements representing different colors, we tell the chemical composition of an atmosphere by spiting the light spectrum (from red to white, with colors like blue, green, purple etc being the middle of this spectrum). New space telescopes can also tell us the temperature of an planet. An Keplar sat first showed us the temp of an Gas Giant. An new Sat being planned to launch soon will be using the light spectrum to tell us the chemical composition of the atmosphere.

Guys water calcium iron is found in abundance in the universe. This planet will have the same elements as earth does. The real question is if life can survive the radioactive rays or If the planet has a magnetic field

I know all about that but for right now we do not have the telescopes to do that. Kepler cant do that James webb is a step towards better space telescopes but even bigger telescopes are being planned for 2025-2030. In a couple of decades we will know if life exists on these planets or not. It is kinda creepy if you ask me. Scientists would be like hey we are 100% sure life exists on this planet 100 light years away. WHat would we do now that we will know aliens exists. Challenge your god burn religious texts as they wont hold any meaning any more? IDK

If a planet is as big as earth just like this one and if we know that Iron exists on that planet I am pretty sure it will have magnetic field. Just because the iron core at its center would remain molten as is case with earth because of its size.

Is there liquid water?

They are just speculating that water might be present on this planet. Not SURE though
