Which industry and skillset will be more valuable in those periods, a country that have a mature military industry and worker skillset suited for agriculture as well as almost every else common people need, or a country dependent almost solely on exports and producing luxury goods, ask yourself this honest question? Chinese Domestic economy alone is based on self sufficiency, Korea is predominantly based on export with large trade deficit, Chinese world wide trade deficit is almost parity, and in 10 years time will be on par with America as one of the main consumerism country in the world, meaning the re-balancing of Chinese economy will give it more economic clout in the future, then by that time China can adopt policy like given exclusivity to Ford and Toyota, and damage Hyundai reputation, the option for economic payback will be there, Koreans should not turn their shame with their past into justification for their big headedness and create alternate reality.

I don't think you quite understand the Chinese's social standing within Korea.

There is no Chinatown in Seoul, the only major metropolis in the world to be without one. Korea is historically so anti-Chinese that a Chinatown was never able to take a root. Does that mean Chinese don't exist? Surely they do, but they lie low and make a living as cooks, factory workers, construction workers, and so on mostly at the countryside.

2008 Beijing Olymic Torch relay was quite a shocker for the locals, as so many Chinese came out of the shadow waving the five-star red flag(distributed by the Chinese embassey) to protect the Olymic Torch against the Korean anti-China protesters trying to extinguish it. Until this event people weren't even thinking about Chinese being around, as these people were lying low. Of course there was a massive police hunt for Chinese afterward for a while.

An interesting info. There is one official "Chinatown" in Korea at Incheon, but this was government built to attract tourists and only a few hundred Chinese live there, mostly restaurant owners. Hence the joke of it being "The Chinatown without Chinese people".

Hoping to lure ever-increasing numbers of Chinese tourists and investors, the local government here in Incheon, just outside Seoul, transformed a dilapidated Chinese toehold here into the country's first Chinatown four years ago.

In no time, officials in half a dozen other cities across the country announced plans to build their own Chinatowns, despite a host of obstacles ranging from a lack of capital to, well, a shortage of Chinese residents.

China's rise, as well as the growing wealth of both Chinese and overseas Chinese, has given birth to new Chinatowns in places as varied as Las Vegas, Dubai, Belgrade and Dobroiesti, Romania. But for South Koreans, Chinatown plans are fraught with historical subtexts.

Sitting on the rim of the Middle Kingdom, Koreans warily kept the Chinese out of their peninsula for centuries. If Korean officials traveled to Beijing to pay tribute to China's emperor, they at least took pride in the fact that there was no Chinatown back home.

Chinatowns flourished in every corner of Asia and in the far reaches of every other continent. If San Francisco, Paris and London had Chinatowns, so did Sydney, Johannesburg and Lima. Chinese economy cannot be self-sufficient because China imports massive amount of energy, raw material, and now food too. And China needs dollar bills to import stuff needed for its survival because other countries don't take RMB; they demand to be paid in US dollars.

That would require China to import massive amount of oil, gas, raw materials, and food, but China must earn dollars to buy what it needs from overseas. But to earn dollars, China's wage must be kept low or the foreign manufacturers will leave China, and China's national industrial champions will somehow substitute those foreign manufacturers who left China. And this is China's dillema; Chinese corporations are not strong enough to replace departing foreign corporations and continue to earn big export dollars brought in by foreign manufacturers. China's small exporters are also hit by the rising wages that make Chinese export uncompetitive in the world market.

In other word, China lacks the fuel to transition into a high-wage economy, and are stuck at a GDP-per-capita of around $10,000. This is so called the middle income trap that awaits China. Japan and Korea had local industrial champions competing around the world to sustain local export after foreign manufacturers left, but China doesn't have these "local industrial champions".
