The Istanbul-Tehran-Islamabad Railway Project to be Launched Next Year

these railways should be expanded up till beirut port in lebanon, there used to be an ancient trade route which used to start from Pakistan and used to go eastwards to baghdad!, that route not only needs to be revived but expanded too up to beirut and tartus ports in mediterranean sea.

in the meanwhile, in ECO/RCD's ITI countries like Azerbaijan, Armenia and Iraq, kuwait etc also needs to be added in the short term

This should be highest Priority (Urgent) after CPEC

a) Education / Technology Hub
b) Iran Oil and Gas powerhouse
c) Pakistan Agricultural Hub , Mineral Rich

We have seen decades of such planning and decades of next propaganda.

There is little stability in that region but sure let Turkey and Iran do the legwork.

the problem lied at our end.. they have been running trans national trains for some time now..

Motorways are essential.

RCD ECO all cannot be attributed to just sheikh love.

We have had traditional power problems. It is still not adequate to support a trans continental connectivity.

Link to Karachi/Gwadar makes more sense than Islamabad

Except if you factor in the potential for a Chinese connection via Islamabad. Considering it is the only link to Iran outside of Russian influence (Central Asian rail links), it maybe vital to the $400 Billion Chinese investment in Iran. This may also be the route for Iranian Oil and Gas pipelines to China for the same reason; outside of Russian control.

If trade really picks through the Karakoram Highway, a rail link maybe economically viable and a strategic gain for all three nations.

Also keeping the rail routes away from the coasts increases the chances it maybe not be disrupted by at from the sea; which could be especially vital for oil and gas shipments.

I can't see why this hasn't been inaugurated already? What segments of the line have not been completed yet?

The Iranian part seems complete to me. The Zahedan-Tabriz railway has been there for a long time. Tabriz is already connected to Van in Turkey since a long time ago. So it seems that only the Quetta-Taftan-Zahedan segment has not been complete yet?
