The humble samosa in Pakistan gets Supreme Court verdict

Samosa minimum rate around here is 5 rs ..but episode is silly ..if supreme court gives direction to the govt on life essentials like rice and water for weaker section of society then its ok with me but here its laughable .. Never expected from reputed judiciary

Since when does the price of Samosa become a topic of discussion on a Defence Forum

Welcome to Pakistan where courts acquit known terrorist leaders and regulate prices of snack foods. There are over 1.4 Million pending cases but who gives a hoot as long as the court is being unbiased with their holiness, the samosa makers
So why don't you tell your bosses to divert money from building nuclear weapons and training "non-state actors" to police forensics and training more judges and lawyers? Which choice serves the state and people better?

Islamabad: Pakistanis will have to shell out more for samosas following a Supreme Court ruling, a move that has left a leading Pakistani daily wondering whether it was the "court's best use of time".

An editorial in the Dawn on Wednesday said that the days of the cheap samosa are over.

"While the savoury little delight is consumed with great relish by Pakistanis around the year, sales of the samosa skyrocket during Ramazan as it is a staple of the iftar spread," it said.

The Supreme Court has set aside a notification of the Punjab government regulating the price of samosas.

The editorial recalled that in 2009 the Lahore government had fixed the price of the crispy delight at rupees six a samosa. The bakers and sweet-makers of Punjab went to court.

"When the Lahore High Court turned down their petition, the bakers appealed to the Supreme Court. They felt the samosa did not fall within the purview of the Punjab Foodstuffs (Control) Act, 1958, hence the government could not fix its prices, a notion the Supreme Court seemed to agree with," said the daily.

The daily noted that while the commercial bakers will rejoice at the verdict, "others waiting for justice in Pakistan's ever-clogged judicial system may be wondering when their turn will come".

"With a question of interpretation of a law at stake, the Supreme Court was the ultimate forum for resolving the matter, however trifling it may appear to the average citizen. The question, then, is whether the superior judiciary should devise some rules and a system to fast-track more urgent and serious matters for justice rather than spend valuable time on a regulation that is virtually unenforceable in any case...," it said.

"Samosa-makers may be happy and another case struck from the superior judiciary's docket, but was it the court's best use of time at this stage?"

My place 1 samosa = 10 Rs... With no chollay or whatever...
And samosa chat = 30 Rs...
These are not the rates of rehri-walas though... Small corner shops rates that make samosa, kachories etc.... :smokin:
Samosa chat at good shops = Rs 50 plus..!!! :hitwall: :hitwall: :hitwall:

PS : Rehriwala samosa = 5 Rs minimum.....

no a good healthy samosa is available in delhi with the range of 5-7 Rs depending on the region..

any one paying more than that is just wasting his money

Why are you bashing supreme court, a case was filed because govt wanted to control the price of samosa.
Here in Uk they tried to tax hot pastries at higher rate and there was a big hue and cry over it.

I dont agree that samosas will be pricier because of supreme court order, let the market decide the price, it might get cheaper as well.
Artificially fixing the price might force sellers to sell unhealthy food.

Someone's getting mad over a post!
By the way, by definition, a non-state actor is not funded by the state. So how is the army training a non-state actor? If they were, then by definition, he would cease to be a non-state actor

Samosa and chicken Kachoori is very costly now.Potato Samosa is 10Rs per piece but how the hell chicken Kachoori is 60 Rs per piece.:hitwall::hitwall:
Allu samosau should be around 7-8 Rs per piece and price of chicken kachoori should around 35-40 Rs per piece.
Shopkeepers are keeping huge profit margin.

he's probably talking about samosi's not samosa. I have noticed some states make smaller samosa's than others. gets bit chatpata too:lol: BTW it's 2-3 rupees in Punjab, Haryana.
Samosas cost Rs.5 without Chollay and the smaller Samosas's you're talking about are known as Samosian. They are pretty expensive because they are filled with shredded paneer and dry fruits other expensive stuff.Last time I bought them at Rs. 80/Kg in 2009 :cheesy:
