I am in deep water. So, please tell us why the Howrah Bridge is near Kolkata and why it is not in Howrah Zilla. What is the relationship between Medinipur and Howrah Zilla?

By the way, did you know that Medinipur itself was always part of Orissa? It was cut and added to Sube Bangal in the 1750s when Nawab Alwardi Khan signed a Treaty with the Maratha.

Orissa minus Medinipur was given to the Maratha instead of paying Choutha but Medinipur was added to Bengal Suba.

Undivided Mednipur (Mednipur is divided among East and West now, undivided Mednipur was secong largest district of India) is a Quite an old settlement, while Howrah is fairly new. You can trace back to times of Tamralipta, which was the most prosperous port town of subcontinent at its peak.
Mednipur region was not always part of Odisha , it was only during East Ganga Dynasty and Jaleswar Sarkar (from whom it was transferred to to Bengal....). It was one of the strongholds of Palas.
