WHEN the new style £5 note was released, four limited edition Jane Austen notes were put into circulation and they are worth £50,000 each.

Three have now been accounted for, but one note remains – and it could be anywhere in the world… even in your pocket.

This portrait of Jane Austen has been engraved onto the fivers
But before you go frantically checking your wallets, pockets, sofas and piggy banks, you really should know what you’re looking for. Here are all the details…

Why are some £5 notes worth up to £50,000?
Tiny portraits of author Jane Austen have been added to four of the new £5 notes by micro-engraver Graham Short, and if you’ve got one it could be worth £50,000.

Classic quotes from Emma, Pride and Prejudice, and Mansfield Park have also been engraved on to the rare Bank of England notes.

The outline of the golden engraving is visible to the naked eye – but a microscope will be needed to see it properly.

Art experts are estimating that the four fivers could be worth up to £50,000 after collectors forked out thousands to buy fivers with unusual serial numbers earlier this year.

What do the engraved notes look like?
The engraved notes look like any other fiver, except for the tiny gold, 5mm engraving on it.

But don’t panic if your eyes won’t allow you to see something so tiny- there is still a way to determine if you are about to get rich from your £5 note.

The serial numbers of each specially engraved fiver have been noted down.

What are the serial numbers of the engraved notes?

The four notes entering circulation are inscribed with the following quotes and serial numbers – keep your eyes peeled!

Where are the engraved notes?
Graham spent the £5 notes in a cafe in South Wales in 2016, so they could be given out in change and be in someone’s wallet or circulating somewhere in that region.

The others have been spent in Northern Ireland, Scotland and England – but by now they could be anywhere!

One of the precious fivers was discovered by a kind hearted pensioner who gave it away to charity.

The new five pound notes were released in September 2016, and the first off the press started making a fortune.

Fivers with the serial number AK47 have also been fetching high prices on online auctions.

The memorable Jane Austen quotes on the valuable £5 notes worth over £50,000

Each of the other three notes were spent in a different United Kingdom nation and – more importantly – each was found in that same country.

Experts have warned that the last note could be anywhere in the world, but if you take history as an example it feels likely it’ll be in England.

More specifically, if you play the odds you are more likely to find it in Leicestershire, the home of Gary Lineker and Gok Wan.

The last note was spent at Dickinson & Morris Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.
