TEHRAN, Iran – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has described the ongoing fighting in Syria as a war between Islam and disbelief.

“The door for martyrdom, which was closed by the end of the Iranian-Iraqi war, is now open in Syria,” Khamenei was quoted by Guardian Council head Ahmad Jannati as saying during a ceremony marking the death of 46 Iranian soldiers in Syria.

“Youth have persistently called for going to the battlefield in Syria, where Islam is fighting kufr (disbelief) as was the case during the Iranian-Iraqi war,” he added, according to the official Fars news agency.

Khamenei warned that if youth failed to join the fighting in Syria, “the enemy will attack Iran.”

Iran has fought an eight-year war against Iraq in 1980.

Shia Iran is a staunch support of Bashar al-Assad, whose regime has been fighting opposition forces since 2011.

For the past five years, Iranian soldiers — along with members of Lebanon’s Shia Hezbollah group — have been fighting alongside regime forces in Syria.

According to Iranian media reports, more than 400 Iranian soldiers have been killed in the fighting in Syria since 2011.

You will be more confused to see Shiah history, they were used to fight Kingdom like Muawiyah in the past who ran Islamic Empire (Family ruling) and against Khalifah Ali

Khalifah Ali on the other hand, who get Shiah support, (This is the time where people who fight for Khalifah Ali and against Muawiyah Kingdom is called Shiah) get the power through votes in Madinah.

Islamic Khalifah system in the very early time used city democracy, something similar like Athena in Greece, since Arab people in the past ( it might be very opposite into many Westener belief) were really democratic in nature even before the emergence of Islam. The same political system that is fought by Syria opposition now, which is DEMOCRACY.

Early Islamic Khalifah system is diminished by the emergence of Muamiyah Family who was Syria governor before (under Islamic Khalifah), it is due to Muawiyah army in Syria can defeat troops loyal to Khalifah Ali and change earliest Islamic political system that favor (city/Madinah) democracy into family ruling system.

What Assad family does in Syria is SIMILAR like what Muawiyah family did in the past, which is running a FAMILY KINGDOM (Even you will be more surprised to know that both family are living in the same location, Syria)

Syria opposition does not fight for democracy. Syria opposition is based in Saudi Arabia. Syria opposition is a puppet of Saudi Arabia.

I can't understand how people can be so dumb to even believe in this bullshit of fighting jihad against unbelievers and dying as martyrs while the so called supreme leaders/imams keep enjoying their comfortable lifestyle.
If only France had known they shouldn't have allowed this delusional Islamic extremist Khomeini to settle and enjoy his life in 'immoral evil' France from where he led the revolution and went on to lead Iran to where it is today.
