The day when Indian-Gandhi became British Soldier

I believe Gandhi fought in Boer wars. He was not a pacifist then. Probably he thought fighting for the Empire would make Indians get equal treatment with the British. That did not happen. His resistance followed. This non-violent resistance proves one thing. He did not hate the British. He just wanted to knock them into consciousness. That he did well.

If he fought in the WWI that is probably an extension of his hopes of getting equality for Indians.

Btw Gandhi was not a blind pacifist. See:

Look at his physique im not sure if he actually "fought" .. probably ambulance driver or a clerk?

The guy even recruited people for the british army..

He was indeed an ambulance guy...

Due to him you are called Pakistan right now.Or were you planning to somehow become Pakistan in that time?

A founding father of India willing to fight for the British?

Dasyu (Pirate) Ratnakar transformed and became Rishi (Saint) Balmiki and wrote Ramayana.

Samrat Ashoka transformed into a saint and preacher of non-violence after he fought his bloodiest battle.

Gandhiji was not the first, there are several examples where ordinary people changed into completely different personalities and became extraordinary people and that's why we call them greats.

btw this is a forum, not a classroom, I would really prefer if you post more elaborate notes and express your opinion rather than only posting two-liners and keep asking questions in every thread. :-)

@FaujHistorian

But I think Gandhi was a shrewd politicians

One such clash occurred when he went to British and begged to join the army

Which may seems like a dichotomy or perhaps a character flaw or even hypocrisy.

haha...You do not even have the qualifications to criticize Gandhi. Live a life like him, read what he said, did and stood for, then criticize. You are free to get burnt. The whole world ardors Gandhi. On the contrary, world cares a damn about your third-rate communal opportunist leader.

Not many people in our region know that Gandhi Ji volunteered to become a soldier in the Gora (British) army.

Which may seems like a dichotomy or perhaps a character flaw or even hypocrisy.

But I think Gandhi was a shrewd politicians who used his position to propagate ideas that sometimes perhaps clashed within themselves.

One such clash occurred when he went to British and begged to join the army during early part of 1900s (around WW-1 period)

while he was ardent champion of non-violence before and after that.

So let's have a say.

let's ask some questions.

1. Do you know this interesting point of the history?
2. Have you ever wondered why did he do it?

peace

p.s. I used the term Indian-Gandhi to differentiate him from Frontier-Gandhi aka Bacha Khan aka Khan abudul Gaffar Khan.

Where is the source of your claim?
