You do have to admire the USSR leadership for dissolving the USSR rather then there being a violent revolution.

^^ Well I do think that Soviet Union should not have collapsed

It would be better had the accepted capitalism upto limited extent (like China did) and used economic progress to get things in control.

China is not capable to project power when compared to USSR; the biggest reason is it is not the tech superpower.

It is economic giant but still can not be called a global superpower (though it is a Regional Superpower).

Russia has a characteristic feature - too strong role of the head of state. When the head of state - strong and clever, Russia is thriving. But when the tsar is fool or a weakling - the country is destroyed. So it was in the early 17th century and the early twentieth century. And at the end of the 20th century outspoken traitor came to power. He voluntarily destroyed the country - there was no natural causes of collapse of the USSR. There were problems - but they were in the United States. Yes, in all countries there are always some problems.

I had talked to certain people of former Soviet Republics from East Europe, they regretted collapse of Soviet Union. They said, they had enough jobs and economic opportunities during Soviet era compared to current period even though the regime was repressive .

USSR and China problem was that Communism did not work. USSR was a collection of captured countries with their on indenties which wanted independence....China was one country and they just in practice did away with communist economic system while keeping the poltical system. Its still to be determined if that will work.

Just like the USA! 50 states with their own identitie wich wants independence!
