Of course im sure Abe 100% pro-Japan ... how about the general Japanese ppl thinking about China, expecially a rising China ?
Sure there is a sense of threat due to the competition imposed by the abundance of Chinese high profile development. But i think with time, as this becomes the 'new normal', we should see acceptance of this, and bolder japanese politicians adopting more 'pro-cooperation' measures . This can alleviate fears, reduce tension between Japan and China, even play a role in reducing tensions in the SCS and beyond.
China is over 1.3 billion people, and all the Chinese tourists probably represent less than 10% of the entire Chinese population.
You cannot have 100% of the entire population to be politically sensitive.
Prior to the WWII, the US was also one of Japan's major trading partners, but it didn't change anything.
Japan during the early 20th century (pre wwii) is totally different from the Japan of the current epoch. Totally different government style, freedom of the press is now realized, and lastly Japan is no longer a military dictatorship , but a democracy, with democratically elected and peer-reviewed leaders who must answer to the constituency. Not merely elected by a group of "peers".
