The Cabinet decided to reduce the supply of electricity to Gaza
At the request of the Palestinian Authority, Israel will reduce the flow of electricity to Gaza. The IDF warned of the escalation but recommended backing Abu Mazen's request not to ease the Hamas rule in the Gaza Strip

The Political-Security Cabinet decided to reduce the supply of electricity to the Gaza Strip, thereby creating additional pressure on the Hamas regime. According to News 2, the cabinet's decision came after a request from the Palestinian Authority and Abu Mazen, who is interested in exerting pressure on Hamas in the Gaza Strip and recently announced that he would cut tens of percent of the amount he is transferring to Israel as payment for electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip.

Interview with Minister Yuval Steinitz. From "This Day" with Amir Ivgy (Sunday - Thursday, 23:00)
During the cabinet discussion, senior IDF officials described the escalating situation in the Gaza Strip, but recommended that they align themselves with the chairman of the Palestinian Authority and meet his request. Thus, in effect, Israel is trying to hold the rope at both ends: to avoid creating a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip that could lead to a security escalation, and to serve Abu Mazen's interest in his struggle against Hamas.

Electricity in Gaza is supplied by Israel and paid by the Palestinian Authority. Recently, at a meeting between senior Palestinian officials, Finance Minister Kahlon and Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, Major General Poli Mordechai, the Palestinians complained that the money transferred to the electricity supply is used to produce tunnels, as well as the struggle being waged by Hamas in the Palestinian Authority in Judea and Samaria. According to the report, the Palestinians announced that they would stop paying for the supply of electricity to the Gaza Strip. Last night, the Cabinet decided to approve the Palestinians' request. Either way, one thing is certain: At any stage of the civil crisis that will be created in the Gaza Strip due to the electricity shortage, it is Israel that is responsible for the crisis.

So this is what Hamas get's in return for three years of quiet? What happened to the 'quiet=ease' formula Israel has put forth declaring restrictions of the siege will be eased if quiet sustains? You get less 2-3 hrs of electricity per day now. That must send a conciliatory message with the Palestinians ....

Now everyone can not blame Hamas for any armed struggle to alleviate the siege and/or occupation.

......
......

Excerpts of article(Times of Israel):

Spokesperson for Strip’s energy company says Hamas-controlled Palestinian enclave, already in crisis, will see only 2-3 hours of daily electricity

Sami Abu Zuhri, a spokesperson for Hamas, which rules Gaza, said in a statement that Israel would “bear responsibility for the consequences of the reduction” because it “levies taxes on crossings [into Gaza] that are enough [to pay] for Gaza’s electricity and more.”

Israel doesn't control Taxes in Gaza, Hamas does.
Palestinians authority "pays" the bill which is barely the real amount.
The Palestinians authority decided to cut the reduced amount to gaza, and pay only for itself.
Long Live the Palestinians Brotherhood.

Israel is the occupying power, it is responsible for providing electricity to both territories, until it grants independence to them. Yes it does control the tax system in Gaza:

  1. The tax system: Israel continues to control the tax system of the Gaza Strip. Under the Paris Agreement (1994) between Israel and the PLO, Israel is responsible for setting the VAT and customs rates on goods intended for consumption in the Gaza Strip, collecting these taxes for the Palestinian Authority, and transferring the tax monies to the Palestinian Authority each month. These powers enable Israel to punish the Palestinian Authority by stopping the transfer of the tax revenues to it. Israel also controls the granting of exemptions from customs and VAT to non-profit humanitarian-aid organizations, which engage in vital humanitarian activity, for products and equipment donated to them from abroad. This power is extremely significant: if not granted the exemption, an organization would have to pay the taxes that the importer would have to pay when the goods enter the Gaza Strip at one of the crossing points controlled by Israel. With the imposition of the siege on Gaza, in June 2007, Israel blocked the customs code for the Strip in its government computer system. As a result, goods subject to customs are prevented from entering the Strip directly. Israel allows in only a limited number of imports, those it defines as humanitarian and thus exempt from customs duty.

The Palestinians authority decided to cut the reduced amount to gaza, and pay only for itself.

The PA authority doesn't represent the Palestinian people, and the leader Abbas is not a legitimate leader. Is only power due to US, Israeli and Arab policies towards the conflict. Palestinians are not allowed to elect him out of power as Israel rejects any democratic results, let alone the other nations in region who refuse to have alternative to Abbas. If Palestinians elect him out of power, Israel will detain whomever succeeded in the elections, or flat out militarily prevent that said government from functioning.

Israel is the occupying power, and is in control of most of PA funds, as well as the US, that dictate what it can do with it's money. Israel is responsible for providing electricity to both territories as long as they remain occupied. Palestinians can't provide electricity for themselves if they are not independent.

How is Israel occupying gaza exactly?
Can't understand the difference between blockade and occupy?
Israel and EGYPT are closing gaza's borders, doesn't mean they're OCCUPYING it

You do know that Palestinian Authority and Gaza isn't one identity right? trying to troll?

Israel occupies both Gaza and the West Bank. There are many explanations to it's responsibilities towards Gaza by Human rights groups, UN, Bt'Selem, etc.... all over the net.

Israel and EGYPT are closing gaza's borders, doesn't mean they're OCCUPYING it

Egypt has no legal obligations towards Gaza, it can do something to help, but that is the key difference here. Meanwhile(Bt'Selem: The scope of Israeli control in the Gaza Strip):

1.) Crossing of people:
2.) Crossing of goods:
3.) Air space and territorial waters:
4.) Population registry:
5.) The tax system:

.......

A siege/blockade is a rare event, usually in an active war, that doesn't last more than few months at most. There's no other place in the world that is under this 'siege' that Gaza is in for such a sustained period of time(11 years now). Thus it's more than a siege. UN explains why it still considers Gaza an occupied territory, look to them for reference.

Yes genius, Israel only recognizes PA as governing body for Gaza(Even though it doesn't control it), thus collects taxes on its behalf. Including those diesel supplies intended to power the electricity plants in Gaza.

Yeah, and it gives those taxes, TO THE PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY, Who don't pay.
Israel doesn't OCCUPY gaza, it has it UNDER BLOCKADE, same as EGYPT.
We do transfer GOODS into GAZA, but payment is PA responsibility.
Now, Done responding to your trolling acts, kinda lame that u're not responding to any of my points.

Already addressed this in post#5

Addressed in post #7

Yep, you're indifferent to the reality, and exposed for false assertions/insinuations, and can't support your narrative with facts. Thus I'm trolling ... you are not able to support your own assertions without outright lying or being misleading. Should have never quoted me in the first place.

'Tis better to be vile than vile esteemed.

We should shut down the supply of electricity untill they hang every single Hamas member along the streets of Gaza.

.
Isreali govt control all EU foreign aid accounts for Palestinian people.
