What's new

The 37th anniversary of the iranian revolution

Thankfully, Shah Reda's rule didn't last too long. It seems every building in these pictures has been built in Shah era.
I imagine if he still the ruler of Iran, then many things would be different and more modernized.
Under these circumstances, I congrat you guys for what you are in under Khameine's rule and hope he stays your leader forever.

And I pretty much sure you'll never get a chance to vote a president under a voted constitution ...

Some of the buildings in Tehran were built during Qajar dynasty, which is a 100 years ago. That's how it is living in a dynamic, ancient country. We didn't just wake up 30 years ago.

Some areas have buildings that are built this year and you walk around the corner and you see a villa that was probably built 80 years ago.

It's an amazing experience. You go from milad tower to azadi tower to toop khune and its like you are seeing Iran during 100 years.

We are not ashamed of it. We are proud of it.

Culturally we are different. We respect our history. We don't constantly destroy graves to build shiny shopping centers full of STARBUCKS and McDonalds thinking that's what modernization means.

What is your take on the revolution? I don't seem to see you thanking posts here, nor adding any replies. If there is one thing in common about Iranians living abroad, it will be their consensus that the revolution was a big fucking disaster. They would say that to anyone, even if there was no occasion. A taxi driver may complain to you about it when he is taking you to the airport for example. Believe it or not, some would assume that me being from KSA, I am somehow obligated religiously to support the regime as "Islamic".

With perhaps the exception of people in Mecca and Madina who are accustomed to seeing Iranians for centuries, most people in KSA don't immediately connect Iran with Islam (the way they would link Indonesia, or Pakistan to it). I was nearly 13 or 14 when I knew that Iran was a Shia country. I remember having a big surprise because it was "too late" to know that. Long before the age of 13 - 14 , I knew that the UK, Brazil, Canada, U.S.....etc were Christan majority countries. I already knew that Indonesia and Turkey were Muslim majority countries.

Please note that I asked you because I like generally your attitude towards things. Some members are pro regime without reservations (which obviously doesn't make scenes). Kindly try to say what you really think as opposed to saying what you should say.

From my interactions with Iranians, there are 3 groups of Iranians,
1: Non muslims or non religious who want more freedoms and hate religion period specifically Islam and if there was to be a religion it should be zoroastrianism as thats the indigenous religion of the Iranian people. They consider the revolution a disaster and think Shah was the best thing to happen to Iran.
2: Casual, easing going Iranians who accept they fact they are muslims and acknowledge that Mullahs can play a role in society but they don't like to see Khomeini's face everywhere and want to focus more on Iranian culture rather than looking at everything through a religious lense. These people would like the Mullahs to be kept under check and not given a free pass to do as they please. This group would prefer Mossadegh types to be still in charge and see the revolution as a reaction to western intervention in their affairs.
3: The more serious and practicing Shias who see the Mullahs as the rightful leaders and see the revolution as a dream come true and praise the revolution.

I think overall given the mindset of the Iranian people and the situation in the middle east, the revolution has been not too bad. Things could be better but it wasn't a complete disaster.

Their hatred to islam doesn't make sense because the army who invaded iran have nothing to do with islam and the shia don't believe in so called islamic conquests the islam that iran follow have nothing to do with bakri Omari islam if the arab invaders

Beside the iranians hav their own religion before islam why do need religion from arabs if they are better than the arabs that's what that they think

37 years of Mullahcracy...These low life whores should be kicked back to Masjid.... They destroyed Iran put it under sanctions... War Mongering and Hate spreading is their Trademark.....
the hashimates that rule iran should be kicked back to hijaz

Sorry but bullshit.

1 - 2% of Iranians who have such ideas and live abroad are not representative of millions Iranians. We are Muslims for 1400 years and have nothing against Islam.

Sadly those very few minorities who talk against Islam give false image from what Iranians think. 85% of the Iranian names are names of Ahlulbayt or other names in Quran. An important point is that, most of the Persian speakers who talk against Islam on the internet are indeed Israelis NOT Iranian. Israelis teach their children Persian language in schools. They know that Iran is their biggest enemy, so they should KNOW language of their main enemy. Many Israelis can talk Persian as good as me.

About Islamic republic, firstly we should agree that 98% of the people voted to it.

Secondly it's about 75 ~ 80 % supporter, 15% natural and 10% opponent, and we should respect the majority.

You are right, my conclusions are mostly by interacting with Iranians in the UK. I have never been to Iran so can't speak for them.
