It seems the GPMG will soon reach out to 2 km! General Dynamics and SIG have each developed a .338 Norma Mag version.

Fyi,this round is used for thick skinned antelopes like elands and dangerous game due to its power and penetration though the recoil is crazy. Also the rounds are 4x the price of 7.62 NATO.

They set about to create a machine gun which would offer similar handling characteristics as the M240, yet rival the reach of the venerable M2. Combining the .338 Norma Magnum cartridge and their “Short Recoil Impulse Averaging” recoil mitigation system, the LWMMG can engage targets out to 1700m (some GD literature offers 1900m) with a 300gr Sierra HPBT, FMJ, or AP projectile. That round offers 5 times the energy of a 7.62 projectile at 1000m.

Imo,its a better fit than the South African 20mm Inkunzi which has found an anti VBIED role recently in the Middle East though IIRC its used by the Saffa Recces.

Yes,but not inducted. Tbh,I don't know how far the program has gone. Imo its worthy of induction though they'll have to be careful with logistics. In the stress of combat it must remembered to separate 5.56mm.7.62 NATO and .338 Norma Mag,easier said than done.

it's the same gun except that was made by general dynamics and it was shelved. but this gun looks exactly the same as the general dynamics .338 Lapua machine gun with different ammo.
