le Boreal was build at italian Fincantieri yard here in Ancona and is considered one of the worlds best luxury liners. She and her two sister ships (Le Soleil and LÀustral) sail for the french line Compagnie du Ponant.
Experts say the "Boreal-Class" ships are the most beautiful and technological advanced ships in the sea. They combine absolute italian elegance with french style.
Unfortunately tragedy hit her last november in south atlantic near Falkland islands...there was a malfunction an explosion followed by an engine room fire. The ship lost power and did run on emergency protocolls.
Passengers and most of the crew were evacuated with the help of the royal navy. The ship almost striked rocks and there was a high chance she would sink...
Thanks god engineers from Fincantieri were able to stabilize her and gain back some power...she was brought to Chile Punta Arenas but could not be repaired there.
She had to come back to Italy where she was build for repairs but its very dangerous to tow her and send her that long way without enough power.
So China stepped in under dutch company DUC she was loaded on the chinese heavy cargo transporter Kang Sheng Kou. Something like this was never done before in this "weight class" and this long distance.
Its good to see so many nations did their best to safe this great italian ship. UK, France, Chile, Netherlands and China. She will be repaired in next 2 months and has her next cruise in may this year.
P.s.: wonder if the crew of the cargo ship sneak on board and use the cabins, dining room ect. Lol thats certainly a nice tour and better than transporting oil rig stuff.
