Thailand and Vietnam have agreed in trade talks to aim for US$20 billion in two-way turnover by 2020, up from almost $11 billion last year, Commerce Minister Chatchai Sarikalya said Wednesday.

Gen Chatchai told reporters the 690 billion baht target was set in a three-day meeting of a Joint Trade Committee, co-chaired by him and Vietnamese Industry and Trade Minister Vu Huy Hoang, on the eve of a visit to Thailand by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

In 2014, Thailand's two-way trade with Vietnam amounted to $11.8 billion, according to Commerce Ministry statistics.

To achieve the new trade target, the minister said, both sides endorsed a plan of action on cooperation in trade and investment, covering the period of 2015 to 2020.

They also agreed to promote cooperation in such areas as trade promotion, agriculture, transport connectivity, banking, intellectual property, investment, energy and labour.

At the meeting, Gen Chatchai said, Vietnam expressed its intention to join the International Tripartite Rubber Council, which engages in rubber production planning and works to boost rubber prices.

The Bangkok-based council, which works to boost rubber prices, currently comprises Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. They and Vietnam account for most of the world's production of natural rubber.

Yeah, get it. I like volleyball and my optional sport course in college is volleyball.

All right, back to your topic. I know Thailand fabricate lots of car, but I rarely found them in China market, why? I can find Malaysia made car in China.
under japanese brand

Who will benefit the most, Vietnam or Thailand? Someone will have to have a trade surplus vs the other.

Glad to see Vietnam learning to be more business minded. Hopefully this will cure their hot head syndrome over time.:D

@Edison Chen what you think? lol

Is she pure blooded Siamese? Or is she Chinese-Siamese? She looks like she's Chinese, could be Teowchew. :)

Thai is not a TPP member, so his economy should integrate deeper into VN economy to export to other TPP nations.

Time for Thai Govt. to think abt sub-Mekong region, right ??:pop:

Are the economies of Vietnam and Thailand don't have any economic restriction that could hamper FDI?

Because if there are no restrictions, then I envy both Vietnam and Thailand economies.

I don't know. I don't really care that much of the ethnic background of people around me. I guess most Thai people are like me. We care more about political orientation ie .Yellow or Red. Or may be just social status etc.
