What's new

Thailand intends to purchase a total of 150 Chinese-made VT-4 MBT: unit price 5.8 million US dollars

Thailand is now actually in a rush!
After pass order to Ukrain,Thailand only gets 20 units of T84 6 years later!
With the 20 Units T-84 from Ukrain (berely made it, they have civil war issue),and with the more 28 units VT-4(already deliveried)+21 units(under production),Thailand has now 69 New 3rd generation MBT, this si some number but not that much really.

Vietnam has 1,500 tanks (although most of them are old models), but Vietnam continues to introduce more relatively advanced T90s. Both China and Thailand should be wary of the increase in Vietnam's tank power. However, the Vietnamese army(tank power) pose more threat to Thailand, Laos and Cambodia than that to China.

1500 tanks of Vietnam is a great joke, most of them is T55/54 series. Your average RPG 7 can knocked them down easily

Dude, we attacked Thai from 1979-1988 and Thai gay soldiers always chose to run away when seeing our troops. Its No use and no chance for Thai to fight against VN army as usless PLA also dare not send men to help Thai.

Its US sanction that stop our expansion till now. Stupid PLA generals wt human wave tactic and Thai army r cheap joke. Its a waste for Thai to buy submarine and tank as Thai and PLA army only can fight against terrorist who got poor trained and poor equiped, can not use in real war.
LMAO!
The Thai armored forces used to use the Chinese 69 tanks, and in the mid-1980s repeatedly defeated the Vietnamese T-55 tank harassment. In the 1980s, Vietnam and Thailand experienced a perennial war, 69 tanks helped Thailand and repeatedly repelled the Vietnamese offensive actions and played a very important role. (China's 69 tanks are equipped with night vision systems, the Vietnamese army is trained with China PLA discipline, VN got night combat capability and strict combat discipline, but in front of the China's 69 MBT night vision system,Vietnamese soldiers are a group of dead meat).

1985[edit]
  • January–February: A powerful Vietnamese offensive overruns virtually all key bases of the Cambodian guerrillas along the frontier, putting the Thais and Vietnamese in direct confrontation along many stretches.
  • 5 January: Paet Um attacked and evacuated.
  • 7–8 January: Five to six thousand Vietnamese troops, backed by artillery and 15 T-54 tanks and 5 APCs,[48] attacked Ampil (Ban Sangae). Vietnamese troops were supported by 400–500 Cambodian KPRAF troops.[49] The attack was preceded by heavy artillery bombardment, with between 7,000[50] and 20,000[51] shells falling over a 24-hour period. Nong Chan and Nong Samet were also shelled.[52] Ampil camp fell to the Vietnamese after a few hours of fighting in spite of General Dien Del's predictions.[53] KPNLAF troops disabled 6 or 7 tanks but reportedly lost 103 men in combat.[54] San Ro civilian population evacuated to Site 1. A Thai A-37 Dragonfly ground attack plane, was shot down over Buriram Province during the fighting,[55] killing one of the two crew members. During the assault on Ampil, Thai troops defending Hill 37 near Ban Sangae sustained 11 killed and 19 injured.[51]
  • 23–27 January: Dong Ruk and San Ro camps shelled, 18 civilians were killed.[56] Population of 23,000 fled to Site A.[57]
  • 28–30 January: Vietnamese artillery fired about one hundred 130mm shells, mortars and rockets at positions of the Khmer Rouge's 320th Division near the Khao Din Refugee Camp about 34 miles south of Aranyaprathet. This was followed by an infantry assault on Khao Ta-ngoc.[58]
  • 13 February: Nong Pru, O'Shallac and Taprik (South of Aranyaprathet) attacked and evacuated to Site 8.
  • 16 February: In a skirmish with non-communist rebel forces near Ta Phraya, four Vietnamese rockets containing toxic gas were fired, causing Thai villagers in the area to complain of dizziness and vomiting. A Thai Army laboratory confirmed that the rockets contained phosgene gas.[59]
  • 18 February: 300 Vietnamese troops assaulted Khmer Rouge positions near Khlong Nam Sai, 19 miles southeast of Aranyaprathet. Fighting began with small arms exchanges and escalated into a Vietnamese barrage with heavy artillery and mortars. Thai troops fired warning shots at Vietnamese soldiers as they crossed the border in pursuit of fleeing Khmer Rouge guerrillas. One Thai villager was killed.[60]
  • 20 February: Vietnamese and Thai soldiers fought on Hill 347, about half a mile inside Thailand's northeastern province of Buriram.[61] A Thai officer was killed and two soldiers were wounded in the fighting, which included an artillery duel across the border.[62]
  • 5 March: Tatum attacked. Green Hill population evacuated to Site B. Dong Ruk, San Ro, Ban Sangae, and Vietnamese Land Refugees are all moved to Site 2. Some 1,000 Vietnamese troops were regularly intruding into Thai territory in attempts to outflank units of the Cambodian resistance groups.[63]
  • 6 March: Thai troops and aircraft forced Vietnamese troops to retreat from one of three hills on Thai territory which the Vietnamese had captured during preceding days. Royal Thai Air Force fighter-bombers flew missions against about 1,000 Vietnamese who crossed the Thai-Cambodian border in two places.[64] The Thai counterattack against the intruding Vietnamese troops left some 60 people dead.[65]
  • 7 March: Thai army troops supported by artillery and A-37 Dragonfly aircraft recaptured three hills seized by intruding Vietnamese soldiers. Hundreds of Vietnamese were said to have been driven back across the border into Cambodia. However, the Vietnamese counterattacked against Hill 361 on Thai soil behind the besieged Cambodian guerrilla base at Tatum, and the results of the battle were not immediately clear. 14 Thai soldiers and 15 Thai civilians had been killed.[66]

It’s not that easy as the legacy tanks get a fresh look with new armor. the modernization is just cost saving measure though until T90S tanks enter service.

It's also impossible for vietnam to actually field 15g tanks. They neither have the logistics or whether many of their tanks are actually operational.

How do you know Vietnam can’t field all tanks? No offense but we are not as backward as your country.Ask Chinese smugglers! They appreciate Vietnam’s great infrastructure for smuggling steel, aluminum, corns, etc :D

You actually want me to believe you have the fuels, parts & technicians ready to field 15g tanks? I was an army brat fielding hundreds of tanks is already a monstrous task & they were active service tanks. Seeing that most of your tanks are legacy tanks or in reserve which will be needing extra maintenance to get it going. I find it hard to believe. Even the US army will have problems fielding that large amounts of armor. Even if your country can somehow it will take months & may not be able to field them all. That 15g numbers are there as a bluff.

You are guessing too much. During Vietnam war, North Vietnam amassed 600 tanks for a single battle such as the Eastern offensive 1972.

Even during great war, with all funds from Soviet you cant field more than three hundreds at a times. There is limitation for your capabilities look orbat during Vietnam war and invasion of Cambodia

You are a kind of idiot,
http://mod.gov.vn/wps/portal/!ut/p/...XbTEf_LyBkZ7r9c!/dl4/d5/L2dBISEvZ0FBIS9nQSEh/

Even Vietnamese Ministry of Defense stated otherwise only 332 mix of Tank and Apc involved in the offensive

An overseas like you should go to Vietnam more often, even me had visited Vietnam thrice this year

Wow.Seem like u know quite well abt VN and VM army, so u should know that its No use to mock our army on internet. Even CN also had to retreat in 2014 conflict against vN around Paracel water as Xi realize that PLA wt stupid human wave tactic will get another loss if CN dont have US-Jp support like in 1979.

Thai army is just a cheap joke. No use to buy submarine and tank against VN as Thai soldiers will run away like they did in 1979 to 1988 .

Who is idiot? I am surprised you can read Vietnamese. Where is the number 332? The US said the VPA attacking forces had 1,200 tanks and armor verhicles combined!

The Chinese fuel tension in order to sell more weapons to Thailand. A war likelihood between Vietnam and Thailand is Zero.
