What's new

Thailand has an aircraft carrier with no aircraft

I sense potential for a floating "Variety" massage parlour.

LOL.

Thailand has no naval fighters anymore. So sell it to others who has and need.

To be honest, i agree with you. Thailand really has no 'hostile' neighbors. They are cordial and in partnership with Myanmar, they cooperate with Malaysia and Singapore. And to an extent they also cooperate with India.

Who else do they share a border with ? Cambodia and Laos? lol.

Thailand should focus on her air force, and ground capabilities. Navy wise -- they don't need subs, but frigates with anti-sub capabilities.

Thailand has good relationship with both US and China.
Only threat could be Myanmar and muslin in the south
So it does not need to spend so much money like Vietnam who bother both US and China

thailand has no real external threats, just clashes with domestic rebels and separatists. they can afford lower defence spending.

Precisely. They should use their resources more so on national development , and focus on infrastructure. Such as the planned HSR lines and new ports planned. :)

If you have a conflict with close enemy like China which has growing military power day by day,
and there is another super power US which want to kill the current communist party government all the time,
It is hard for Vietnamese to stay calm. They are under super pressure..
That is why Vietnam put so much money on military..

It brings importance to the saying, "follow the middle path". Balance is something that is necessary in order to evade military conflict. I don't know much about Vietnamese history , aside from the Vietnam War, but one thing I do know and appreciate about the Thais is their ability to play different powers to secure their own interests. The Siamese under King Mongkut and later under his son King Chulalongkorn had secured Siam's independence by taking a non-interference / non-alignment policy during the Age of European Imperialism in Asia.

Siam had learned too well from the mistakes of the Burmese (Ango-Burmese Wars) that had resulted in the Burmese Empire (Toungoo Dynasty) into a British territory of the British Raj. The Siamese also learned from the Vietnamese defeat to France , as well as the defeat of the Khmers and Laotians to French colonial forces. Taking no side and playing as a 'border region/ buffer zone' between British Raj / British Malaya and French Indochina had secured her independence.

Thailand, too, should be wise in not engaging in any direct alignment will secure continued cooperation with China.

I mean if you observe their military policy, they are quite wise. They cooperate annually with the US through CARAT Gold, and have recently invited PLA Marines for joint exercises to calm Chinese concerns that Thailand is too warm with America whilst not with China. They are wise, indeed.

Thailand should maintain this strategy. They have the privilege of remaining anonymous. :)

Thailand is wary of Vietnam's Manifest destiny.

Recently, the exchange between two show us that there's no real threat to each other

Vietnam even gave a Mig-21 to Thailand as gift for show.

It is fair to say that Thailand and Vietnam are now integrated / integrating.

One mig 21 is just a gesture. China and US trade over $400 billion a year. Does that make them allies?

$400 billion made them trade partners.
The Mig-21 as apart of the Wings of Friendship program.

You don't know that Malay, Thai, Indonesia ... pilots already sit in Vietnam Su-30
