The issue with Erdogan and his religious extremists are trying hard to roll back all that for there own political motives.. They seem to have been emboldened with the chaos they created in Syria.. But the ISIS will be the downfall of Erdogan himself
In fact, Erdogan back-pedaled on the Uighur claim and sent his state news agency to XinJiang to refute the crazy claims of "Uighur oppression." Maybe he saw he was becoming way too lonely, few countries except Qatar and lovely Saudis to go. But Islamists and Turanist did not even hear his voice. Erdogan said his opponents sought to undermine his regime by putting a drift between AKP and other governments. He was, in sense, bitten by the monster he himself fed and emboldened. Otherwise, how in the world, in the middle of modern Ankara, women clad in Taliban-style dresses, would attack a Chinese looking lady and smash the Thai consulate?
As for Iran.. Iranian people some of the most edcated and progressive and their Mullah led administration trying hard to keep its population in religious dark ages are two very different things
Hopefully, with the agreement being put in action soon, Iran will slowly get rid of the archaic rules and traditions. Then, the sky is the only limit for Iran. But, I have little faith in clerical regime as well as the US Congress who has to pass the deal.
