Thai junta’s focus on school reforms raises eyebrows

.
I think that's the problem in SEA education system ( except singapore, they have excellent system)
The govt not invest enough to education system and there's no reform from this sector..
Also the teacher quality suck big time, and the school lack of punishment for a gang member... For example, in Indonesia , student from grade 5-6 can involved on brawling fight (we called it Tawuran ) You can easily found chain, knife, or even samurai on their bag instead of book or pencil ..
Well, I hope the school have a strict law and the teacher have a balls to punish the students...

Anyway, how thai Pisa test results?
There are some stuff money can't fix. Some schools are so bad, it would take a military personal to control the school. I suggest putting a soldier in every class to keep every student inline and military officer as the principle at least for a few years.

Thailand got rank 50, slightly higher than Malaysia.

. . .
That's why I'm broke! man! I have no saving these days.
My 2 kids together 10,000 USD / year.

10 grand / year... In Bangkok?
Not that expensive, better than ur kids end up as a thug...
In Jakarta , it can cost you 16 grand / student for elementary
Two kids can cost you 32 grand / year..

I personally will send my son to singapore, rather than international school..

That may not be a good idea, rental is very high in singapore. 2000 SGD(1600USD), room around 500SGD(400USD). About 19200 USD and 4800 USD yearly on rental itself.

You have a son? How many kids do you have?
Singapore. Then you need to pay for expensive rent and food. Do you need to send your wife to take care as well? That will be very expensive.

Man, don't blame it on the schools and teachers! It starts with the family and how parents raise their kids.

The personality of a person (whether he has a thug mentality or is a nice guy) will already have been formed during the first 3 years of his childhood. So blame it on the parents for not raising their kids properly.

Although personality can be altered later in life so teachers should have some responsibilities in shaping and disciplining their students.

How bad are these situations? are these youth problems common in Malaysia/Indonesia/Thailand? or is it only common in the poor towns?

Don't send them to Singapore. That'll be super expensive and your son will turn into an arrogant a*hole like other Singaporeans

Anyway, I'm 30 and not even married yet but I'm under pressure to so I have to start planning. IMO, the most important time is from 15+ through university. The important thing is to attend university abroad (UK/US). The best state schools in Yangon are very good but your kid has to be smart enough and you have to pay a bribe. A lot of Burmese send their kids to state school until about 15 when then send them to boarding school abroad in either UK or Singapore then they get into the top unis. I think that's my plan.

* I mean a lot of the well off Burmese ofcourse.

Its not like we can fix the parents that easily. Nowadays parents don't let teachers discipline children. Spare the rod spoil the child. In Malaysia, you cane, parents bring lawyers. Good job. Teacher aren't a respected profession anymore.

Its bad, spare for some control schools. Youth problems are steaming from a western liberal society.

or is it only common in the poor towns?

On the contrary it is more endemic in towns. Rural students are more conservative and parents have more time parenting (Both parents working to make a living in urban areas). Make me wonder are our quality of life increasing or lowering?

Oh they work hard. But every Singaporean I've met always came across as arrogant to me. The Burmese who have lived in Singapore are also a little more arrogant than the ones that lived in other countries. My opinion, anyway.

You wanna know how bad?

Let me share my experienced.. In one evening I'm on my way home, I got caught up in the middle of Tawuran ( fight each other between school).. And I saw between schooler there are kids around 5-6 elementary throwing a stone. Some of them have a knife..

I'm not shocked if the schooler is around junior high school or senior high school.. But I'm totally shocked When I saw elementary kids join the fight! These kids even cant piss straight , but they already throwing stone and act like a thug..

We have a really serious prob here..

That sounds bad. Yea it sounds like a western liberal society. I'm currently living in a western country and things here dont make sense to me either. The time kids interact with their parents are MUCH LOWER than the time kids spend at schools. Yet alot of parents dont allow school teachers to discipline their kids. Worst, teachers can be sued if they shout or use the wrong language against their students (students can say it's verbal abuse, insult, defamation that cause psychological damage, etc.) .... so that means no one really discipline these kids.

However, I do see mums that stay at home (housewives), even in rich urban area.

Elementary school kids? wow, this is the first time I've heard this kind of story.

I still think it's the fault of the parents. I think there need to be some radical law... like parents getting punished/prosecuted for crimes committed by their kids (even if it is just a fist fight) . Then, maybe they will beg the teachers to discipline their kids.

Do you have this kind of law in your country?
