Textron Systems, its subsidiary Howe & Howe, and FLIR Systems, Inc. unveiled their bid for a new Army robotic combat vehicle Monday — the Ripsaw M5, a well-armed tracked vehicle equipped with high-end sensors that can deploy unmanned air and ground assets like a drone mothership.
The Textrom-lead team offers the new unmanned light tank with a remote weapons station to respond to the U.S. Army’s rapid Robotic Combat Vehicle acquisition.
At AUSA 2019, the Ripsaw M5 was fitted with an MCT-30 turret designed by the Norwegian Company Kongsberg that is armed with 30mm automatic cannon. According to Textron System, the Ripsaw M5 can be equipped with other weapons systems including the Common Remote Weapons Station (CROWS) Javelin missile.
Soldiers in the field need the right equipment to be successful. A tank that is too heavy to cross a bridge or maneuver through rough terrain and high altitudes can have a serious impact on mission success.
Bringing together speed of innovation and proven program execution, the Ripsaw M5 Robotic Combat Vehicle (RCV) is ready for the fight. Ripsaw M5 is the 5th generation of Ripsaw providing speed, mobility and unmanned capability. The M5 can silently maneuver and keep pace with the current and future maneuver forces, pushing capabilities beyond the human formation.
