What's new

Tesla caught fire. As soon as it started smoking, the electrical system locked trapping the guy inside.

"BYD made a statement indicating that the battery coolant in the test car is different in color than the non-conductive type the car came with; they, therefore, suspect that the car has been tampered with. If this is true, the conductive battery coolant may have leaked onto battery components and caused the short and subsequent fire."

Does it make the shitty test for BYD Han with blade battery valid? lol...
You need to try harder if your intention is to smear blade battery. It is proven safe.

Hmm...your Chinese independent crash testers are not trustworthy...and have been caught "gaming" cars..what a shocker.

They have an agenda. The rivalry is strong in China. Tesla might have bribe some of those tester. :enjoy:

You really think they are independent?

I keep forgetting I'm talking about a society dominated by the "red envelope".

Nice that he got out. But that woman whose Tesla hit a rock and caught fire died in the fire.

Across the world there is a mad scramble to set up electric personal car and two-wheeler factories including in India, Indonesia, China and Vietnam. In India there lately have been multiple reports of electric scooters catching fire not only in the middle of the road but one incident of new scooters in a delivery truck catching fire. Governments not only did start to ban personal vehicles but also enabled short-term thinking companies to build electric vehicles that use the risky lithium-ion battery instead of the new and safe zinc-ion battery. This is insane how governments are risking lives just to be fashionable and say "We are Green, yay !" despite pollution actually increasing massively by replacing billions of petroleum-fueled personal vehicles with factories that produce billions of personal electric vehicles. And think of the various companies offering different electric models every six months. This is madness !

@Bilal9 bhai.

@AmiEktaKharapChele, remember I told you about such an eventuality in your thread about two Bangladeshi youth who had followed the herd and were doing something about lithium-ion electric scooters ?

S T E A L. L O L. And the Twitter page is hilarious.

Yeah they even have sealed lead acid battery powered auto rickshaws in India.

I think type of battery is the problem. Lithium Ion have a tendency to self combust when charged beyond a certain rate. Older SLA batteries don't have energy density like Lithium Ion batteries and don't have a runaway heat combustion problem.

We used to see this on a much smaller scale with RC aircraft powered by Li-Ion batteries back in the day....

Not 100%. China crash tested a BYD Han EV and it ended up catching fire and burning to the ground. Tesla's have withstood catching fire in crash tests.

LFP IS inherently safer than NMC/LCO,that's just the law of chemistry, nothing special about it. If you don't believe me, just do a little research and you will find it out.

It's bad for the earth and environment.

So are your personal electric cars and two-wheelers.

What nonsense are you talking about? Use Traditional Lithium? lol.. The chemistry is different from your traditional lithium and is proven it will not cause fire with blade battery.

The zinc-ion battery is inherently safe when in use and when in being produced because it uses water as electrolyte. All this insistence by you about "chemistry" is most probably because China has invested a lot in lithium extraction and processing and the factories that put into into batteries. China has after all a highly Capitalist business model that will be extremely reluctant to adopt a new mineral as battery fuel even if it is much better. :D

You are very right. There have been quite a few cases in India of people keeping their phones in charging beside their beds throughout the night and then getting woken up by the phone bursting and they getting burnt. I hope this doesn't happen to me because I unfortunately have to keep my phone attached to my Slax Linux computer because the new Slax version is somehow not recognizing the otherwise safe wireless, phone hotspot.

All cars are bad for the environment, be they petrol or electric.
At least electric are better for environment compare to petrol.

I think seriously, you need to some chemistry lesson.

LiFePO4 (also known as Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries are a huge improvement over lead acid in weight, capacity and shelf life. The LiFePO4 batteries are the safest type of Lithium batteries as they will not overheat, and even if punctured they will not catch on fire. The cathode material in LiFePO4 batteries is not hazardous, and so poses no negative health hazards or environmental hazards. Due to the oxygen being bonded tightly to the molecule, there is no danger of the battery erupting into flames like there is with Lithium-Ion. The chemistry is so stable that LiFePO4 batteries will accept a charge from a lead-acid configured battery charger. Though less energy-dense than the Lithium-Ion and Lithium Polymer, Iron and Phosphate are abundant and cheaper to extract so costs are much more reasonable. LiFePO4 life expectancy is approximately 5-7 years.

It not about from China, it basic chemistry. US abandon LiFePO4 due to its lower energy capacity. BYD adopt LiFePO4 but using a genius patent arrangement system of Blade battery to tensely pack its energy capacity to its maximum while using is structure as base support to further eliminate structure to support frame to battery. That is why BYD Han can cruise to range of 600km range without resort to bigger traditional LiFePO4 battery.

Slight correction in word but a major correction in application : All personal cars are bad for the environment and society.

At least electric are better for environment compare to petrol.

Yeah ? Why do I have to repeat that building factories for billions of new personal electric cars by private Capitalist companies who keep changing models every six months is going to bring a catastrophe ?

Forget my chemistry lesson, you should develop big picture thinking. :)

Keyword : Of lithium batteries.

No, the Chinese focus on lithium batteries is because of money, political and infrastructure investment on lithium extraction and processing and insertion into battery. China has even been collaborating the those Taliban criminals to access lithium in Afghanistan.

Only if the energy being used to power these electric cars is generated by renewable sources.
Tesla supply power source all from solar power.

Then you have windmill, solar panel , nuclear energy and even dam which provides clean electricity. While running on petrol is 100% damaging to environment.

Look at Texas, fossil fuels generate the majority of the electricity over there. In such a state using electric cars in the name of going green makes no sense. If one truly cares about the environment then one should be advocating for multiple mass public transport systems throughout multiple cities. The less dependence a city has on cars the more environmentally it will be. EVs will only be environmentally friendly when the electricity being used to power them is coming from renewable sources.
