KARACHI, July 4: Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Noman Bashir has said that the scourge of terrorism continues to plague national efforts towards progress and prosperity of the country but the nation will surmount the challenge collectively and with dedicated efforts.
He expressed the confidence that the country will find its rightful place in the comity of nations.
The naval chief was addressing a passing-out parade on Monday at the Pakistan Naval Academy where 94 officers, seven of them female, were commissioned in the regular naval force.
He lauded womens joining of the armed forces and said that the fourth batch of female officers as part of the parade not only signified the self assurance of Pakistani women in their abilities but also their will to join the seafaring profession which had been an exclusive male preserve in the past.
As Pakistan is beset with numerous challenges, the naval warfare has become an exceedingly vast and complex domain which demands thorough knowledge and ingenuity. Remaining abreast with the developments, both in weaponry and doctrinal concepts, is the need of the hour but modern weaponry alone does not guarantee success. It requires high professional skills and undeterred will to accomplish assigned tasks against all odds, the naval chief said.
Earlier, in his welcome address Commandant of the Pakistan Naval Academy Commodore Ayaz Ahmed Nasir highlighted the salient features of training at the academy.
Later, the chief guest awarded prizes to the midshipmen who performed well during the training. The ceremony was attended by foreign diplomats and families of the graduating officers, besides armed forces personnel.
