NEW DELHI: Ten major projects of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), including the LCA Tejas aircraft and several key missile programmes, have been delayed due to various reasons, Lok Sabha was informed on Friday.

Giving details of DRDO's delayed projects, defence minister Arun Jaitley said during Question Hour that "corrective/ remedial" measures are being taken to address the issue of delays.

Besides Light Combat Aircraft, other delayed projects include Naval Light Combat Aircraft, Aero Engine Kaveri, Airborne Early Warning and Control Aircraft and Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile.

The Air-to-Air Missile Astra, Advanced Light Weight Torpedo, Dual Colour Missile Approach Warning System for Fighter Aircraft, among others, have also been delayed, the minister said.

On remedial measures to complete the projects, Jaitley said that consortium approach is being used for design, development and fabrication of critical components.

According to him, synergy and better co-ordination were being promoted among user services, DRDO and production agencies through cluster meetings.

Jaitley also said the general impression that DRDO is lagging behind and that government is not providing enough support "may not be very accurate".

"It is not fair to say that activities of DRDO have been curtailed by paucity of funds," he said.

On proposal to allow 49 per cent foreign direct investment in the defence sector, Jaitley said the objective is to bring in best technologies into the country.

The government has decided that now it would be "Indian majority controlled" and it will bring the best technologies in the defence sector, the minister said.

The country has to come out of the situation where India is the largest buyer of defence equipment and ensure that "we have domestic capacity within India", he noted

IMO, India does not do a "green pain job" types..

There's no weapon system in the world which is fully indigenous! Even the Tatra trucks of the Soviet era had fuel filters made in the US!!

Lo karlo lo baat!!Arey yara,just check out the successive annual R&D budget allocated to the DRDO.Until recently it has been grossly inadequate to say it gently, given the number of projects currently in hand of DRDO.With all due respect to
Mr Jaitly,all was simply not in place for DRDO.Just take a look at the amount the likes of the Chinese or the Americans expend in their respective military R&D and compare that to what DRDO gets.I'm sure you'll get the point.

I didn't see you when Indigenous projects were inducted.Where were you then ?

Well,FYI the systems developed by India for Brahmos are widely known,including INS,seekers for new variants.It have been posted many times before in this forum.

And mate,the Brahmos saga is becoming too old now,you have to come up with something else.You see mate,we never claim it to be 100% Indian developed,every one and his mother know that PJ 10 is a further development of the P 800 Oniks and it's a JV.We never claim it to be otherwise at the first place!!

And one more thing - a vast majority of its Russian subsystems have already been replaced with Indian ones like the solid fueled booster rockets,navigation and guidance systems including the RLG and FOG based INS system and satellite navigation with the G3OM,the warheads,new composite body frames and wings,laser altimeters.Heck even the original Russian seeker is in the process of being replaced with a new solid state active SAR seeker developed by Datapatterns!!Only the liquid fueled ramjet engine is among the major subsystems that is left to be indigenised.

So brother,you're running out of option when it comes to Brahmos,come up with something else.
