New Delhi: After the successful launch of the supersonic Brahmos cruise missile from the Sukhoi-30, ensuring a tactical advantage for the armed forces, work on 'BRAHMOS Light,' a lighter version of the missile that can be fired from the Tejas, the indigenously made Light Combat Aircraft that the Indian Air Force is acquiring, has begun.

The new version of the Brahmos will have a smaller engine. The warhead will be about the same but the weight of the missile will be considerably less. The lighter missile's range will be about the same: 300 km.

A senior defence official said it is "currently in the design stage, though initial consultations have been held." The missile is likely to be ready by 2019.

Brahmos air launch version is about 2.5 ton only one could be carried by big fighter Sukhoi not tell me how much wait and size they can reduce without lowering the range to make it small, how mich they can 500.kg then 2 ton giant missile is too much for tejas.

Tejas is not operational yet and the deliveries are way behind schedule. How is this paper tiger going to be a threat with a day dreamed weapon?

And how come the BRAHMOS will have the same warhead and the same range but weigh much less. This can only happen if the smaller engine will mean a slower subsonic speed, which means it will be equal to the Ra'ad ALCM. Congrats India, you have now announced a plan for a weapon that has been in service with Pakistan for a decade! :D

This can be possible if the air launched Brahmos data is false.

Probably IA is hinting you people:victory1:

Fighter that cant fly is equiped with a missile that makes a U-Turn, deadly combo indeed

BrahMos plans to carry out two tests from the Su-30 MKI—one targeting a ship and the other a land-based target. Once the two tests are completed successfully, the missile can then be inducted by the IAF.
