At 40000 feet above sea level, the temperature is -40C. All Jets of this age (both commercial & military) routinely fly this high. If the engines operate at such extreme temperature, what is special in this news?

It's not about operating the engine. It's about starting it.

Buddy what they have achieved in this extreme weather is indeed a remarkable achievement although it's also includes the U.S. Technology because the engine is GE-F404 but the starter is seems to be all made in India which seems by this news or even is that starter is a mix of India and others still its an achievement at this sea level to start a jet engine without assistance by it self from stand still cold.

Even they start engines routinely at -15C
Any ways, great achievement for LCA.
These civilian airliners would be operating with plenty of external assistance- water heating trucks, defrosters etc etc

The LCA started with zero external assistance, there is a difference.

The startup is the issue. Yes planes fly at extreme heights but the engines will already be up to temperature when doing so and would've been started at lower heights and warmer temperatures or with the help of heating machines. In this case the LCA was started from -15 degrees with no external assistance .


It's like when you start your car on a cold day, the windows will be frozen over, the engine will be cold and it will take a few minuets for the engine to be warm enough for the screen defroster to work. When you are driving along and the engine is up to speed the windows won't be defrosting because the engine is already warm.

Our bird is getting more and more mature. I expect this bired to be a lethal mutirole fighter in couple of years of time. With first upgrade, it will shall have significantly higher capability.
