so does that means by the time our JFT blck 3 is about to get to mass production your MK1 will be ready Correct ?? So if MK2 is getting massive upgrades than it will get its mass production lets just say by 2020 so wouldn't the tejas be irrelevent becasuse FGFA would be only 4 to 5 years away ????? serious question though...

Hi
For one and all I want to make the time taken by Tejas to be clear.

1. Tejas has taken only 14 years from its 1st flight to its induction in Airforce.
While Gripen had taken 12 years.
Not a big difference.

2. The time of 1990-92 , 1998-2000 and initial 6 years were a total waste due to Economic problem, sanctions and inexperience. During this time not a screw was made for Tejas.

Hope this clears that Tejas project is well on time.
Cheers
Thanks

Hi
Tejas mk1 is comparable and at par if not better than JF17 block 1 and 2 in almost all aspects and 2 squadrons of these have been ordered and production is going on.

In another 2 years an upgraded Mk1 will come out.

And by 2019 mk2 will be in service.

Tejas , Su 30 and FGFA are 3 vital points on which air defence of India lies. All of them have different roles.

Cheers
Thanks

1st thing its been 14 years and still not a single plane is inducted man come on stop comparing that ..

2nd so take out 4 years out of nearly 3.5 decades still we get 3 decades :/ from 1980's till now ....

Somewhere he said it is comparable to F-16. I mean engine are same. but others?????

@Ankit Kumar 001

Hi
He said that the Avionics and some other technical things related to it ( I don't recall it right now) are at par if not better than F 16.

And the capabilitiare are optimum for an aircraft of its class.

Cheers
Thanks

i read some one just said MK2 will be a different league can i ask what would be so different about MK2 ?? change in airframe ?? or internal weapons bay to make it stealthy ?? or more hard point to make it from light aircraft to medium aircraft ???

Hi
1. First aircraft SP1 has been inducted already. 3 More will be by December.

2. Calculate the time .
Yes its 30 years from the announcement.
But remove 6 years of initial time as nothing was done during initial 6 years untill France came to our rescue. And add another 6 years due to sanctions and economic difficulties.
Now the time is about 20 years. And 20 years is a very good performance.

Cheers
Thanks

It will be comparable and be at par with Gripen NG if not better.
Cheers

putting AESA, a good EW suite and a BVR missile on the craft makes it as good as any 4th or 4th+ gen aircraft if not better thats not an answer dude thats dodging the question :coffee:

Tejas, which finally achieved its initial operational clearance last month. It has an American engine, British ejection seat, Canadian canopy sheath and Israeli radar. "A major chunk of its avionics and weapons are also imported. The series production of the Tejas Mark-II version, which is what IAF actually wants, is unlikely to begin before 2022," said an officer.
