End of this year, Techwin could sign new contracts to deliver the K9 155mm self-propelled howitzer to Turkey and Egypt.
Techwin has started the negotiations for the delivery of the K9 to Egypt since 2010 with a signature of MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Egypt for military collaboration with South Korea. The negotiations were stopped in January 2011 due to political situation.
In March 2017, the renewal of the MoU was launched after the visit of South Korean Ministry of Defense in Egypt for military cooperation between the two countries.
The K9 could replace the old American-made M109A2 and M109A5 155mm self-propelled howitzers in service since many years with the Egyptian armed forces. According the Military Balance, Army of Egypt has a total of 164 M109A2 and 204 M109A5.
