The small-cell technology developed by Corning's Israeli Development Center will enable the deployment of advanced 5G infrastructure in the US. A collaboration between the company and EnerSys, which specializes in energy storage and electrical solutions, will help speed up the efficient and cost-effective deployment of fiber optics. In small cell sites.

Corning and EnerSys will focus on two major challenges facing wireless service providers and network architects in deploying small cells outside buildings (Outdoor): electricity and connecting connectivity to fiber. In today's reality, connections to sites with small cells from the power grid are not always available and therefore a situation has arisen that leads to increased deployment costs and delayed network operation.

The proposed solution, using technology that began at Corning's technology center in Israel, allows the use of Corning's hybrid optical cable, which integrates copper wires, in a way that enables a stable power supply to the deployment site and helps communications operators expand the 5G infrastructure.

"Corning and EnerSys will focus on deployment simplification by combining optical connectivity and power supply. In doing so we make installation faster at a lower cost with cheaper operating costs over time. Corning continues to see 5G as a key driver of long-term growth in the optical communications business, therefore We are proud to continue to innovate in collaboration with industry leaders to accelerate the deployment of 5G, ”says Michael Udi, vice president of the optical communications division at Corning.
