Tata Motors plans assembly unit in Bangladesh, to make 50,000 cars a year

TATA has had mixed reactions about their reliability.
Some swear by its long life. There's a reason it's a favourite for taxi owners.

Any case, newer TATA models are completely different in ergonomics and technology and BDeshis should be happy. No other brand will provide you the same comfort and tech at that price.

Is there a market for 50,000 new cars in Bangladesh ?
You're economy is growing at a decent pace and more people will reach the middle/upper middle class, so there would be a good demand to compact cars in the near future. Also, there is a possibility that some of them maybe exported as most car manufacturers in India export a major chunk of their production, particularly the ones which have low demand in the Indian market

Most of your fellow countrymen commented about the reliability of Tata cars and I would agree Tata suffered with reliability issues a while ago but ever since the change in management, incorporating Japanese standards when it comes to manufacturing like lean, six sigma, process control and high quality testing methods along with using design language from Jaguar-Land Rover and incorporating their methodologies, they're one of the best affordable cars in the market and maintain better standards than other international brands who are manufacturing their automobiles in India

Rofl knew after now-failed Nano, tata will be investing in cycle rickshaws.

After surpassing Pakistan economy I thought Bangladesh would be making their national car? Anyway when is Rang-MAhindra foraying into Light Commercial vehicles? MAhindra entered Bangladesh last year with much fanfare and India's topmost dalaal Obaid ul Qader went to inaugurate the plant for Rangs Motors. Later on it was learnt its Mahindra brand pickup that is going to be built there. Rang Motors mostly build Humar Haulers, Buses and three-wheelers. Mahindra sold its junk to Bangladesh and after its success hopefully Tata will push its own loss making junk into Bangladeshi market.

Don't know about Nexon, but you'll certainly have Tigor and Tiago.
Nexon is absolute value for money in India with very popular design, but I think it'll be assembled in BD only if there are similar competitors.

Well it is Nitol Motors' (Abdul Matlub 'Ambedkar's) money and Tata's too. So they take the fall if they can't sell these cars. Hope this India sycophant did not borrow taxpayers' money....

India is regarded high for its market ethics and values.
You do realize this is not saying a whole lot? Ethics in the Indian marketplace? And I am not saying this filtered through an American lens. Car-buyers in Bangladesh are quite a snooty lot. Hope Tata keeps up quality.

Yes they do in Bangladesh. Even a four/five year old Japanese domestic market (JDM) refurbished certified car (of the Toyota Camry size) is wayyyy preferable to Indian-made vehicles as far as reliability. Same situation in Nepal, and in Sri Lanka. Maybe things have dramatically changed in India as far as quality for automobiles, if so that will be welcome news. But I do not believe things change so quickly. People will buy even Chinese cars before they buy Indian. In Bangladesh you can't expect us to go all 'Mera Bharat Mahaan' like you guys - we can't really throw away our money. You are competing against Japanese quality here.

Funny, the dumping ground for used Japanese cars are talking about quality.
I hope Indian cars approach the quality of Japanese cars someday. Gaali deney aur sarcasm ka faida nahin.

TATA vehicles aren't that popular here for private use but there is a good demand for their commercial vehicles. They would make profit if they start assembly production of their heavy duty trucks and mid range pick up trucks here.
Ashok Leyland is ahead of them in starting an assembly plant. Nitol already has a small Tata truck/bus chassis assembly plant in North Bengal somewhere.

No, what France did with Indian 'indigenous' jet Tejas in 1988, still in launch mode after 30 years :lol:
Dynamatic Technologies Ltd, Bengaluru (front fuselage); VEM Technologies, Hyderabad (centre fuselage); Alpha Tocol, Bengaluru (rear fuselage); L&T, Coimbatore (wings); while the tail fin and rudder will be supplied by National Aerospace Laboratory and Tata Advanced Materials Ltd and the rest is being manufactured and assembled by HAL.

So, unlike you guys who paint the cheap chinese jet with some cheap chinese paint in PAF colors which even the Chinese refused to induct, we designed ours and are manufacturing the major components that go into it

I've owned a nano for 3 years when I was in Pune.
Till date, I have not owned a better car . There are Nano cars in Sri Lanka ( where they are being used as cabs ) which have done upwards of 2 lakh kms. And going strong !
But I also know of Tata car owners who have suffered a lot due to quality problems.
Hopefully , Tata has made improvements in their production by now.
Congratulations to tata and Bangladesh.

Well you had a stroke of good luck it seems.

Partly because the reliable 2-cylinder Bosch engine and transmission is Made in Germany.

The body however is another story. They crash-tested it in Germany (ADAC) and in a four-star rating, it got zero. Even seatbelts did not help. The front end is GONE. I rest my case.

Tata has far better chances of selling well-made SUV's as govt. utility vehicles in Bangladesh. At least you can survive a crash in those.

I had earlier ridiculed TATA cars, because, I've owned those rattle rust buckets Indica and later Vista too, though it was a decade or so, back. HOWEVER, recent Tata cars are well made and seems to protect passengers in terms of accidents unlike Indo-Jap craps or Tin can cars churned out by Maruti-Suzuki etc. It seems TATA is using tech after it's inquisition of JLR into these recent cars. You can check. Old models of Tata are pathetic, agreed. New ones? well, to me they seems really well built.
