The project is scheduled to start electricity generation by July 2025.
Plantation is already there and lot of tourists visit this point, as on both sides of tunnel are Spillways, great place, specially after dam filling.

No it's occupied by military and they use it as a resort ⛵

The dam runs at 100% capacity only 2-3 months a year and that works for everyone

Why

Because that's when demands peak too

SSG has Base here.
Army Aviation unit stations here.

Exactly what everyone has been saying since 1990s and the results was only 1700 mw was built till 1990

The one who said that were either
1- not knowledgeable like you
2- IPPs investors

Everyone should know how hydro works i.e will run at full capacity only in peak months of August and September

But then our demand also is only in these two months due to AC use

So instead of doing cheap extension we decided to pay the IPPs

One said IPP earned 20b rupees this year without running the plant for even a single day

Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project will be completed in 2025-26. World Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank are providing financial assistance for the Project to the tune of US$ 390 million and US$ 300 million respectively.

Cumulative generation capacity of the Project stands at 1530 MW.

The Project will provide 1.347 billion units of environment-friendly and low-cost hydel electricity to the National Grid every year.

With completion of Tarbela 5th Extension, installed capacity at Tarbela Dam will increase from 4888 MW to 6418 MW.
