the T-72 india is using is more capable than the normal T-72 which you are comparing it has been upgraded heavily and can outclass the T-80

.
and even the T-90 bhisma is advanced version of the T-90 and not the basic version of the T-90 which makes it more leathel than al-khalids

.
We both have good Tanks the question we should be asking is are we ever going to use them againist one another? I think not we have gained som common sense over the past few years.

I think we should all copy the Russians and make does inflaitable Tanks and Planes, decieving the enemy is better than being upfront.

.
THE THREAD HAS SOME FLAWS.
ARJUN TANK IS NOT CONSIDERED HERE.ACCORDING TO INDIAN ARMY IT CAN DEFEAT T-90 IN SOME FIELDS.
THOUGH A GOOD COMPARISON BUT FUTURE SCENARIO IS NOT CONSIDERED.

AK is superior to T-90S as per its SPECS on paper.... now even AK-I a further upgrade is in service.

Even AL ZARRAR is better then T-72.

Do we seriously still believe that tanks will be strictly used against tanks in a potential land war?

it might still happen, in the Gulf war American tanks came face to face with Iraqi ones.

but the best way to counter a tank is to use infantrymen with ATMs

How does a Tank formation prevent an ariel assault?

I feel like it was the lack of air support that turned the tides in the battle at longewala....

I believe Indian Tanks are assisted by the Akash SAMs on a mobile platform to prevent ariel attacks....

Is this a necessity?

.
Few Indian members raising the objection about not considering Arjun and T90. T90 is been inducted recently, but Arjun is still under test and its not a rugged test proven tank yet. Arjun will be come in competition after full induction and still it will take another 5 to 10 years to prove itself.

Plane like A10 its totally a sitting duck. But all depend on armor, how many strikes it can take or electronic measure to disable incoming.

Well my question was....Do Tank units and formations take into account ariel assaults and counter measures for that?

I gave the example of the Indian Akash units to know if this is a common practice....

Can you expand?

Yes, the Strike Corps have Mechanised Air Defence Brigade interspersed within the formation. The Mech. A.D. formation will have both Gun and SAM mounted units, which in turn provide cover to both Tank and Mech. Infantry units. Please don't overlook the fact that Tank and Infantry units operate in synch.

I would go with the T-90S here. It has a better hit survivability since the frontal area has Kontakt-5 ERA on it. That being said more modern APFSDS rounds could probably penetrate it at this point. It usually comes down to the crews in the end.

What is a missions on a tank?
1) use it as a APC
2) Carry anti-tanks and anti-aircrafts
3) Armour
4) Can be used to throw bombs far away and is mobile

but

The factors that matter are:
1) Quality
2) Horsepower
3) Resistance
4) Equipment
5) Operations (Night time operation)
6) Speed
7) Uphill power

There may be several more but these are important ones i have picked out.

Now its up to you which one to select!
I am in Favour of Al-Khalid but 'Arjun' isint bad!

What next will come?
a APC that can carry upto 40 Personnels?
or a tank that can launch Anti-Aircrafts directly?
SAMs?

Pakistani Engineers!
I am giving you a hint!
