Compare with countries at similar level of development and per capita income. India Is no better no worse.. Rape is under reported in all patriarchal societies. It is also very common. Travel a little and see what happens in Africa, the Caribbean, Egypt. Egyptian girls find it hard just to get to work due to s3xual harresment on the roads. Rapist do not show remorse anywhere because they are @ssholes...check with Bill Cosby....he still has the same smug smile on his face to this day.

Dude I am going to keep this short and sweet as this thread is long past it's expiration date.

India is an important trading country, it has a dynamic free press that runs on TRPs. It also has a vast underdeveloped rural hinterland. The Indian media picks up on such stories for TRPs. The west amplifies for its own self serving reasons. You are Chinese, you should understand, how many times have unknown Chinese artists in prison been used by the west to whip you during trade negotiations?

The west is always feeling round everyone's b@lls to find a place to get a good grip, it is up to us to keep our b@lls well greased (sorry about crude language, but I think you get what I mean). They use such information to their advantage - just look at South America - why are they in a middle income trap?

This logic is not applicable for entire tamil nadu, it applies only on southern tamil nadu. In chennai people will use loose tongue against elders, thats normal over there. But in sothern tamil nadu every single word counts while discussing with an elder. When my cousin came to chennai first time he wasn't used to chennai slang, so he thrashed a chennai guy who made a loose talk and got arrested. It's not the mistake of both, in chennai it's ok but in south it's an offence and the police officer warned him to leave chennai if he is not able to tolerate the chennai slang.

Yes caste/ethnicity is much more intense in TN than religion. It's not happened because he is a dalit, it would happen even a maravar guy walked like that. Only in the two districts tuticorin and tirunelveli, Rivalry still going between thevars-nadars, thevars-dalits, nadars-dalits, these three castes are fighting with one another for a long time but no one will ally against or with anyone.

I totally agree with you!....I had a few friends from Salem, Erode, Karur and Madurai during college.....They were utterly disgusted by the way we Chennaites spoke to them...eg.."Dai macha enga vaa da"..They thought we were being dis-respectfull and wanted to kick the shit out off me....But after a few months they understood that it was a normal and friendly way of talking here in Chennai!....So yes I agree!

Facing the problem is the first step to addressing the problem. Being defensive and denial will not get you anywhere. Football player rape case and university senior rape case in the US are disgusting, but they are in no way comparable to the gruesome and heinous gang rape on the bus in South Delhi, and they did show their remorse for the crimes they committed. By the way, when is the last time you heard about any gang rape cases of 2 year old or 4 year old in any part of the world?

Higher castes treat lower castes as subhuman, and lower castes turn around to treat those defenseless as animals, because many in Indian still believe that people are born to be unequal. It is the disrespect for human life part of crimes that caused the international outcry, not the rape crime itself.

As a total outsider, in Chennai in 1981, I had almost daily run-ins and aggravations with people, random people. When I started going south to Madurai and Pudukottai on regular business tours, the contrast in the language was shocking. I couldn't believe that it was the same Tamizh and it was the same Tamilian I was speaking to, and of course, I wasn't. There is something uniquely aggravating and belligerent about Chennai language and its expression that fortunately is not replicated anywhere else in the state.

Thevar is the honarary title for the mukkulathor community, there are three internal groups maravar,kallar,agamudaiyar.

Thevar-dalit clashes intensed following the murder of immanuvel sekaran an ex-army man three decades back who opposed thevar heavy weights in the name of rights for dalits at the ramanathapuram collector office. Following this murder rivalry between the two castes spread to the other southern districts also. In my place still dalit people will call me as "samy(god)", when i was a 7 yr old i called a dalit girl as Akka(elder sister) and I got scolded by my village man. People aren't able to suddenly change the mentality which existed for 1000s of years. When dalits raise for something we expect them to not cross the 1000yrs traditional line and obey what we say, so is the scuffle.

Nadars are well established now, hcl shiv nadar, standard fireworks, idhayam oil, dinanthanthi newspaper, etc etc. Tuticorin is famous for salt production, while mediating a land issue between two parties venkatesa pannaiyar's grandfather stepped in to support the nadar side, pasupathi pandian entered to support the dalit side. Following this issue Pasupathi pandian and gang murdered venkatesa pannaiyar's father asupathi nadar and his grandfather. Venkatesa pannaiyar started revenge and everything started.

Thevar nadar tussle started after the murders of karuppasamy pandian(thevar) and karate selvin(christian nadar). Selvin murdered karuppasamy Pandian's brother in law, he murdered selvin as a revenge. As a nadar heavy weight venkatesa pannaiyar responded by murdering karuppasamy pandian.

One day will not be enough to detail the complete issues. Its quiet funny, I was a rival for nadar guys during my school days, now i am defending for them in an international forum.

My cousin was enraged in the bus when a chennai guy told "otha ulla aeru" in chennai its ok, for us it's a huge offence. In south even elders will use "da" only against well known young guys, to call some unknown young person they will only say "thambi inga vaa ya, thambi inga vaa pa, thambi inga vaanga" you can see this in tamil movies also which are based on south.
