PESHAWAR: The much-trumpeted ‘Tameer-e-School’ project of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has begun to bear fruit as 45 out of 818 schools that lack essential facilities have been revamped.

To improve the standard of education in the province and materialise its claims of change, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led (PTI) government had launched the project in April 2014, aiming to construct new educational facilities and revamp the existing ones by raising funds.

According to documents received from the K-P Elementary and Secondary Education Department, a total of 818 schools lack basic facilities such as infrastructure, sanitation and equipment. In all, 65 schools have been funded by various organisations and individuals and so far 45 have been refurbished while work is in progress at six schools.

While talking to The Express Tribune, the education department’s additional secretary Qaisar Alam said a total of Rs24.7 million has been collected for 65 schools so far. He added boundary walls, toilets, classrooms have been constructed while sanitation, electricity and equipment have been provided at 45 schools.

Alam said that the incumbent government has prioritised the education sector and declared an education emergency in the province, adding that the sector’s share in the annual budget has been doubled.

He added that a monitoring unit has also been formed to look over the progress of projects and identify schools where faculty and facilities are missing. Alam said that reports are filed on a monthly basis and soon the sector will see a major re-haul.

It wasn't an amendment as unlike your legendary Hindu flying machines and nuclear bombs of the ancient glorious past, Muslim scientists of pre-medieval and medieval era did contribute significantly to chemistry field of sciences:
Alchemy and chemistry in medieval Islam - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It was this historical information that was omitted by previous secular government, and which was later restored by current PTI-JI alliance in KPK.

They should keep this going at full pace and priority should be that all 818 out of 818 should be refurbished and completed by 2018. I hope they succeed in this venture. Will be a great boost for the illiterate KPK and also help reduce extremism.

KPK on average is still more educated than rural Punjab thanks to 6th time ruling PMLN, LOLZ :D

total requirement for all 818 "tameer schools" is around 787 million, where as total education budget is 80 billion, i.e just 1%, why not just spend public money, rather than taking more from the public in terms of donation?
I see it as pointless

Hmm.. So a separate project to " Jamaatize" the education system. Nice.. Shows that PTI is actually serious in " reforming" education system... :D

On a side note : the changes have been much much severe .

Rumors. In reality, a chemistry book for tenth grade had historical references of ancient Muslim scientists and their contributions to the field of chemistry. Former government in KPK removed these, but JI-PTI let them back. No big issue as its a historical fact that Muslim scientists contributed in this field just like its a fact that Hindu mathematicians invented current numerals in existence worldwide.

Same can be said about Punjab, which has more Madrassas than any other province.

Instead of comparing to others you should try to be the best in your game...
If PTI compares its performance to PML-N then we will know PTI is lazy. PTI should compare itself to European political party performance and strive to be better than even them

They have already implemented online FIR and Mobile courts, none of which exist in the top HDI country like Norway.

There is no such idea anywhere. JI doesn't have a free hand in doing anything - But, as @Norwegian correctly mentioned, their demands were reasonable which is why they were accepted. And by the way, a proper religious education would be very good in preventing radicalization - If people know what their religion actually says, they'll be able to spot and avoid people who twist and abuse it.
So if there is ever a project to 'Jamaatize' the education system, i'm all for it as long as they teach Islam (and possibly comparative religion) and not psychopathy.
