The US itself supported al Qaeda (ie: Jabhat al nustra) in Syria, so using AlQaeda as an excuse to do drone strikes in Afghanistan is laughable, Al Qaeda seized to be an enemy of the US since the Zionist spring (aka "Arab" spring) began in 2011.
Ofcourse I oppose the Taliban as much as I oppose Al Qaeda or ISIS etc.. however neighbouring countries (such as China) should not fall in the trap of trying to become the principled knight in shining armour who will work against all Jihadi terror groups in Afghanistan to turn Afghanistan into a modern secular nation, as long as the terrorists in Afghanistan don't threaten China then leave them be, and limit the security activity in there to just intelligence gathering to make sure there are no plots in Afghanistan against Chinese territory, also work with Russia and the Central asian members of SCO and Pakistan on intelligence gathering, ofcourse China is already doing all of that so I'm not really stating anything new here.

China is not a true, ideologically correct Communist country so it has no problems in being supportive of the Taliban instead of supporting progressive groups in Afghanistan but I am surprised that Russia is fighting Taliban-like groups in Syria but is engaging with Taliban in Afghanistan.

Prior to 2001 there were only tribal lords with their militia but since USA came to Afghanistan they brought and funded these territory groups to go against Taliban. ISIS/Daesh and any other groups associated with them get direct funding from the west. India is also providing training and shelter to ISIS-K terrorist organization. Just to correct you, it’s not in west interest to eliminate terrorist groups. In fact they want to use them for their interest.
Within Taliban there are factions who are supporting TTP for their own interest, and we all know rest of the story.
