With Taliban activities in Afghanistan witnessing a rise, India is sending Indo-Tibetan Border Police commandos to beef up security of its personnel engaged in reconstruction work there.

At least 134 highly trained commandos will be despatched in two batches beginning this month for protection of Border Roads Organisation personnel constructing a crucial highway in Afghanistan, sources told PTI in New Delhi on Sunday.

Seventy five commandos will be sent in the first batch in about a fortnight in view of the urgent security requirement cited by BRO, the sources said.

Formalities for sending them, including arrangement of travel documents, are underway, they said.

Fifty-nine more commandos will be sent early next month, they said adding, they are at present being given training for the specific task.

With the reinforcements, the total number of ITBP commandos in Afghanistan for protection of Indian workers will go up to 388 as 254 are already there for the task.

The decision to send additional commandos was taken in response to a recent SOS from BRO which is engaged in construction of the 218-km Zaranj-Delaram highway, a strategic road that will connect Kandahar to Iran border.

The BRO sent the request as it feared Taliban could target its workers to prevent them from construction of the highway.

388...hmm..it would start creating a furore if it crosses the 000 mark.

This means more attacks on PA and terrorism in Pakistan, more clashes on Pak-Afghan-Iran border.

Let me be honest, if Jammu and Kashmir flares up, you can bet your bottom dollar that Pak-Afghan border will be up in smokes. India is on a mission to checkmate pakistan and play the game played by pakistan in India;

I dont think Pak has any intention of flaring up JK. pakistan is being watched closely by the whole community as to how they are deaing with extremists, any flare up in Kashmir would help India play up the card of ' Pakistan being a state sponsor of terror '.

Pakistan needs a calm Jk to show the world they mean business and so is Mushraff;s overtures.

Its a different scenario if he is overthrown.

No mate, India is on one way track.
Musharraf has offered you peace so grasp the opportunity rather than blowing it in attempts of leveling scores.

You are right Pakistan has no intentions to flare up JK or any other part, neither are we in any cards play.
Don't forget to look in your back yard before pointing finger on others!!!!!!!
Pakistan support peace and right of self determination in every part of world. Peace in IOK depends on how IA win back the hearts and minds of Kashmiris.
I wonder, what a disappointment will it be for the enemies of Musharraf if he got re-elected.
BTW, whom you wish to be the head of Pakistan?

I am sure peace is there, and I hope it prevails. India of today is in a position to dictate terms. Times have changed quite a lot. there is no question of leveling scores, but if the need be, we are more than capable of doing it.

I dont believe the 5 consulates in afghanistan is for ice-cream vending. Pakistan is having a lot of internal strife, and i do see a lot of Indian hand it. Do i agree with it, No. But as long as Pakistan is doing it, we have no other option.
