On October 12, giving a speech before the journalists in Kabul, Hamid Karzai, the President of Afghanistan, announced that he has confirmation that Taliban militants use unidentified helicopters to get to the north of the country, Afghanistan.Ru reports with the reference to Afghan national television.
The announcement of the president became sensational news for the residents of the country: it has been long ago suspected that unknown military helicopters transport militants in the night time.
According to Mr. Karzai, the first information about transportation of guerillas was received by special services about five months ago. He also assumed that Taliban could use the same method to get to north-west of the country.
The President informed that law enforcement bodies already started the investigation process. "I hope in the near future we will find out who these helicopters belong to", the Afghan President noted.
Giving a speech in the parliament, General Abdul Rahim Vardak, the Afghan Defense Minister, stated that about 4 thousand hired soldiers arrived in Afghanistan to support Taliban.
Ferghana.Ru reported earlier that Mohammad Zahir Azimi, the official representative of Afghan defense ministry, noted that the militants were going to destabilize the situation in the northern and western provinces of the country. The majority of them are originally from Central Asian states. The General mentioned that after the launch of big-scale operations of Afghan army and NATO units in the south and the east, the militants started looking for alternative places. At the same time, General Azimi assumed that one of the goals of Taliban is to prevent the transportation of NATO trucks through "northern transit corridor".
The active actions of militants in the north of Afghanistan became bad news for such neighbors as Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Specifically, the experts are concerned that operations of NATO and Afghan army in the northern province of Kunduz may provoke Taliban to cross Afghan-Tajik border.
