Taiwan, China will not collaborate on Tiaoyutais: Foreign Ministry
2012/07/19 14:39:52

Taipei, July 19 (CNA) Taiwan will not work with China to resolve the sovereignty dispute over the disputed Tiaoyutai Islands, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Thursday, even though a recent poll shows that over half of the respondents support cross-Taiwan Strait cooperation strategies.

"We will not work with China on the Tiaoyutais dispute. We have our own policy," ministry spokesman Steve Hsia said in a routine press conference.

Nothing unusual in it. Nobody wants to agree unequal treaties with China.

I believe China hasn't take any physical actions involving Diaoyudao ( Tiaoyutais in Taiwan) because she's expecting or respecting Taiwan action/claim on the islands. The recent Japanese moves certainly push China's limited on tolerance if that isn't the case. I also wonder why Taiwan's inaction since her has the most legitimate claim among the three and hope she'll make the move soon enough, or perhaps, Japan will push her toward that direction.

Good! Let the yanks involve more than they ought to

Did you miss the part in the article about a majority of the public in Taiwan prefer cooperation with China?

Hsia's remarks came as a poll conducted by the Chinese-language China Times revealed that 51.5 percent of Taiwanese respondents agree on joining hands with China to safeguard the sovereignty of the island group.

It's just a matter of time before Taiwan and China sees eye-to-eye on the issue. I'd much rather see the Island go to Taiwan than Japan. It's not that I dislike Japan, but it's just that... Blood is thicker than water.
